Looks like the Warriors want to give Paul George a four year max deal and the Orlando Magic are now the Vegas favorites to land Klay Thompson.

Why? In their eyes they had 3 choices:
1. Trade with another team and get picks and hope to draft a PG
2. Don’t trade and go onto draft and hope to draft a PG
3. Trade with OKC and get a 21 year old PG who has a lot of playing time with great players and was a starter on the 1 seed.
Basically, they think Giddey is their long term PG to start the build. Instead of gambling on draft and then develop they took a very young known player. And I think its a good move. Giddey is too raw to help OKC at this stage but has huge upside for a growing team.
OKC didn’t trade him due to his play, rather they realized they have a window to go win a title and Giddey is too young in his growth curve to help. They told him he’d come off the bench next year and he asked OKC to find a new home which they did. And OKC did improve as well.
Whether one or both work out won’t be known for some time. But each team feels they got better for their current situation.

If Giddey can figure out his shot, he’s a potential all star. Caruso is a solid role player at best and Chicago isn’t a contender. I like the trade a lot for both teams.

Can someone explain to me why g league players have to go through the draft process. I thought all of the g league teams were affiliates of NBA franchises. Why cant they just move up to the affiliated team?
