So I went and worked on some of the stuff unbeWEAVEable told me and here are the work in progress results
There are two swings on there, the second one is the better one imo so fast forward to the 30 second mark for that one
My swing part 2
Any thoughts on what I am still doing wrong?
And unbeWEAVEable I would love some more feedback if you want me to email you again. If no I totally understand
ETA: it's windy as shite here which is why you here that constant noise

Two things I see right off the bat...
1. Good. Your bending your knees and it looks as though you are sitting in a chair. However, step two of this process is to get you into a better position. You want to feel what you are feeling now, but instead of bending at the abs, bend at the hips. In other words, you needed to feel like you were sitting in a chair to get into a better position, but now you are sitting back on it. Unbend the knees just a little, and bend over at the hips (chest tall).
2. You have a massive forward lunge with your left shoulder at the start of the downswing, causing your entire second half of your swing to be all upper body. Start the downswing with the left hip, not left shoulder. Swing out to right field.
ETA: you know how teachers in school would tell you something, and then you are taught years later that it's done a different way? The same applies here. There will be some stuff people will tell you that are correct now, but by no means correct in the long run. You have to be able to subtract before you can do long division

To, me there's two things. It looks like your hitting it fat because before impact, you drop your head and upper body. The next one, (and this might be the angle of the camera), it looks like your bringing the club out on the takeaway. Bring the club more to the inside on the takeaway will help you hit more solid shots and not causing you to compensate by coming over the top on impact.

adding on to WEAVE's annalysis:
1: to get away from "chopping wood" (throwing your shoulder at the ball)...If you played baseball, what would happen if you used that same motion in your baseball swing? If you hit the ball it would go straight into the ground... imagine you are hitting the ball with a slight uppercut and mimick that motion through impact with a golf club.
2: SPREAD your feet out!!!Your balance depends on it, you are tall, and if you have your feet too close together a feather could knock you off balance. Like a skyscraper being built the wider the platform, the higher you can build!
Good Luck!

By starting with the left hip and hiring a slight "uppercut" do y'all mean my hip should go forward before my shoulder? Also I think I developed the shoulder lunge bc I used to hit a lot of shots thin, and the shoulder going down helped me make solid ball first contact while still staying down

I disagree...the hip should move out then around...
Reasoning is that the hip moving forward first will inadvertently drop the hands into position...moving the hips around first will throw the hands out, not down.
ETA: that is the D-plane way of explaining...there is no one way to swing a club. While BeaverPRO and I differ in opinion, it is all relative...pick what works for you and do it.

Reading that article makes a lot of sense, if my hip is not clear it makes it really hard to get my hands in position, which causes me to over rotate and hit that left hooking shot I hit so often. Alternatively, if my hip is out of the way (turning back away from my target) I will have a lot more room for my hands to come throught correctly. This is probably why I am so inconsistent and I will hit an awesome shot one swing, and then a terrible hook the next and it feels like I did exactly the same thing.
Thanks a lot guys I am going to work on this

so i played this weekend at the bluffs and shot my best round of the year, which was nice.
however i haven't played or hit balls since receiving critique from this thread, and i was a mess at the range prior to playing
i do intend on coming in sometime after 7/1/12 to find out what all this hip rotation talk is about. picturing it and performing it are two different animals.

Ah, after reading the article, I see the descrepency between the two opinions.
There are two schools of thought, one is body specific, one is plane specific, as stated in my earlier edit.

Not too shabby, considering you YouTube handle is "golfingalabama"

You take the club way too far inside to start the backswing. That causes your club to cross the line at the top of your swing. That was the biggest problem I saw. Easiest way to change it is to imagine your swinging 50% every time, because you probably bring the club a little farther back trying to get more power.

the only thing missing from your video was to turn to the camera and say "this is Kige Ramsay for yewtoob golfing".

It seemed appropriate at the time.
I haven't looked at my swing in YEARS. Could use some work. Flat and quick are two things I noticed.

A little quick to start your downswing was the worst thing I saw on your video. Positions were very good, just that little transition I would say caused your ball to miss a little left on the last swing.

Beaver, I need to come see you...or someone. Everything is leaking way right and now I'm almost double crossing trying to prevent it...
