Klay Thompson.

The die hard NBA fans know he's an elite player, but he's not a lay person household name. Guy is a top notch defender and rebounder and maybe the second best shooter of all time behind his teammate.

I can't believe I didn't post this earlier, and I don't know if anyone else did, but I've always thought Eddie Jones was hugely underrated.

He was an explosive athlete, great defender and good shooter. I legit thought he could have grown into a Scottie Pippen level guy if he'd been able to have that Pippen role.

I listed him a few posts above, Jones became a victim of being too sought out.

Kobe and Shaq didn’t need a third all star & being traded for older players like Glen Rice in the strike year didn’t help.

Then he became trade filler.

It happens in the NBA.

he is dirty and overrated. that’s plenty enough reason for me.

He's a smallish white guy who wasn't afraid to set screens on bigger guys, so he must be dirty.

Sorry, didn't see that. I always thought Jones would have been a great Laker asset with a less traditional vision of basketball.

He got traded for Rice because he was an SG and so was Kobe. If they'd been less traditional and played Jones alongside Kobe, that lineup would have flourished in the triangle when Phil arrived.

If we're doing under appreciated Lakers from the 90s how about some Nick "The Quick" Van Exel? One guy Kobe didn't like playing one on one with

They passed on Melo because they saw how Prince fit into their defensive scheme at SF, going into his 2nd year.

If they redraft 2003, Detroit picks Bosh and wins b2b 04 and 05

True.

That’s debatable especially since this is with hindsight. If I know Sheed is coming to the squad at the trade deadline, I’m certainly picking Melo or Wade and changing NBA history-as that team would be in The Finals until 07, as long as LB is staying.

That 02-03 Mavs team with Nash, Van Exel, Finley and Dirk on the court at the same time was a joy to watch

Gave me a damn heart attack when they took game 1 from us in the '03 WCF without Dirk.

I think you mean Game 5. We lost Dirk in Game 3 of that series thanks to that thug Ginobili

I think my irrational hatred of Ginobili was because of that 03 series, but you can only stay mad at Batman for so long

Looking back at the Mavs rosters over the years, I think they can file for the most out there collection of players

Teenaged me loathed me some Dirk, so I can't say anything Went from that to shedding tears right along with the Big German at his last game in SA. Life is funny.

.

At 6'5 190ish for both( Kobe & Eddie) I believe they were too light in the britches for SF. Pippen was larger & had a longer wingspan & could better get after the elite SFs.

I don't think Kobe nor Eddie were capable of making things difficult or getting a body on elite 3's like Pierce , LeBron, TMac, Carmelo,etc... The reason the Lakers eventually brought in Fox, Artest ,Ariza , etc,....

Unseld is why I bumped this.

shite, Clyde the Glide Drexler was underappreciated despite winning 2 titles with Olajuwon

Drexler wasn't on the team that beat the Knicks, was still in Portland. Houston had to beat them in the playoffs that year.
