Tim Duncan- The greatest PF of all time, and probably a top 10 player all time. #1 pick, 5 time champion, 2x MVP, 10x All NBA.

Frank Thomas. 2x MVP, almost 2500 hits, and 521 HR. If you classify him as DH, probably the best DH all time. Or one of the best offensive 1st baseman all time

Frank Gore. 3rd in NFL rushing history

Greg Maddux
Might be the greatest pitcher since Koufax. 355 wins, 4 Cy Youngs, world series.

Duncan and Gore are solid choices.

I would add Bill Russell. More titles than anyone and rarely gets much mention.

Jim Thorpe-
In 30 month span he was two time All-American and National Champion football player, won Gold medals in the pentathlon and decathlon, and played in the World Series.

I don't think he fits your narrative very well as far as being under appreciated.

The other guys I agree with for sure.

Not in the same class as some of the players you mentioned, but Todd Helton is severely underrated.

He hit .372 with 42 bombs and a 1.162 OPS in 2000 and finished fifth in MVP voting that year. Easy rebuttal is Coors Field, right? He hit .353 with an OPS near 1.100 on the road that year.

5x All-Star, 3 gold gloves. .316 career avg, 2,500+ hits, 550+ doubles and 350+ home runs. The only other player with a line like that is Stan Musial.

Nikola Jokic

No congratulations from his fellow NBA peers, everyone bemoaning the fact that he won again, TNT crew acted like it was a funeral

Usain Bolt

There are people actually walking around casually thinking that his triple double will happen again. Did we really just watch a man hold the distinction as the fastest human for 12 years?

In the eve of the 2060 Olympics we should have all come to terms with the fact that Bolts come along about as often as Leonardo da Vincis.

Brian Mitchell for the win.

2nd in the NFL in all-purpose yards behind Jerry Rice. He should be in the Hall of Fame.

He even played QB in the Bodybag Game between Philly and the REDSKINS back in 1990 and led them on a TD drive.

He was ridiculously overshadowed by Clemens at the end. They treated every Clemens start at the end like an event. And it was like "oh, Maddux is pitching today too, by the way."

Jamie Moyer pitched until he was like 59 and got 269 wins, but everybody just brushes him off as a "compiler."

Well Clemens won a CY in Houston in 2004, then had an ERA under 2 in 2005, while Maddux left the Braves for the 2004 season and never had a season ERA under 4 again. So, pretty fair, right?

This is less impressive than Gore playing 16 seasons as a RB in the NFL and only played fewer than 14 games once. That is absurd.

Apparently this is the thread where people reference a bunch of incredibly famous, world renowned athletes as “underappreciated.”

Jim Thorpe? Usain Bolt? Really?
