So the private, mainly catholic schools, can just form their own Catholic league division and say screw it. You could see STM and Teurlings play with NOLA catholic schools and Catholic in BR. Throw some MS schools in there and you're rolling.

I don't have Facebook. I'm just genuinely curious who wants this 1 time free transfers? Just the kids that don't like the PT they are getting and want to go somewhere so they can play? Tough shite, that's life.
i want it. i have said 100 times in here why.
but take your example...a kid gets 1 shot at this, 1 HS experience, lets say you are zoned for a big 5a school and you are a damn good qb, some kid moves in from cali and takes your spot and yall are same class....the original kid should just sit and never get a chance to play? thats fricking stupid if thats you stance
another one...lets say you are a stud pitcher but the school board changes the school zones and now you are zoned for a 90% minority school that is a low C school....you are an AP gifted type kid....you should have to sit out varsity your freshman year even if the out of zone is granted? again if that is your stance...you are a fricking retard
anyone with a brain who doesnt want to hold on to things for the sake of it is for this. this isnt college
what is so difficult about allowing the Parents and students to choose what school is best for them? Since the dawn of time, when has the government ever known what was best for kids? everything the government touches turns to shite except our military.

Here is a simple explanation.
Over the past few years, local legislators have received a steady stream of phone calls from families about transfer rules and eligibility decisions. Because of those concerns, the Legislature created a Special Legislative Study Committee on High School Athletics to take a closer look at how the system works.
The committee met multiple times and heard testimony from families and school leaders. While transfer rules started the conversation, other issues came up along the way, including:
• Concerns about transparency and consistency in eligibility decisions
• The fact that public schools provide most of the athletes and funding that support the system
• Limited state oversight even though public school students are affected
• A lack of clear appeal options for families
Legislators were also frustrated that LHSAA representatives did not attend some of the meetings, which slowed the process and raised concerns about cooperation.
At the final meeting, the committee proposed two possible paths forward.
Tier 2 – The Preferred Option
Create a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement between the LHSAA and the Louisiana Department of Education.
This would allow the LHSAA to continue running high school athletics while adding state oversight to improve transparency and accountability.
Tier 1 – The Backup Option
Create a state-run Office of Sanctioned Athletics within the Department of Education.
This would place public school athletics directly under state supervision and would represent a major structural change.
The committee clearly indicated that Tier 2 is the option they want. It preserves the current system while adding oversight.
However, legislators have also made it clear that if cooperation does not occur, they are prepared to move forward with legislation during the upcoming session.
This issue is not really about sports. It is about fairness, transparency, and making sure the system works for students and families.

There's are some low IQ people
yea ok...let me guess you are an education major and think you are smarter than everyone else.
trust me, im not the low iq one and im not the one that lacks critical thinking skills
quote:
keep spouting school choice but don't acknowledge this does absolutely nothing in terms of changing which schools kids can attend
but it does, most school boards will give out of zone pretty easy. and once this passes the state will pass school choice in the coming years. like it or not
quote:
Public schools aren't going to magically get different funding because of this.
the money will follow the student. this is done in quite a few other states dude. not rocket science
quote:
Your zoning still matters.
you are right but out of zone isnt hard to get either
quote:
Even if you went parish-wide, that still doesn't solve out of parish issues
again this is step 1, then the legislation will get passed for school choice across the board evenetually
quote:
If this stuff passes, long term we're just looking at scholastic sports slowly transitioning to club sports.
no quite the opposite this is to slow that trend. if you dont do something, pretty much every sport but football will be shite within 2 decades or less
quote:
Some sports like soccer already have school teams considered second tier to club equivalen
umm its like that for every sport but football for the good kids. kids get recruited a lot more from club than school ball. soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball etc all of these sports are sports where club is much more important than school except in maybe dozen schools across the state
you are trying to hang on to traditions that are gone dude, get over it
im done arguing with you about it though because you will win this week but you are going to lose within the next 12 months. so doesnt matter what you want.

That may be the argument, and there are certainly issues within the LHSAA regarding transparency, but the state government running athletics would be an unmitigated disaster for everyone.

This is so parent goggles it’s crazy. You can’t fix everything for your kid in life. They have to experience failure and adversity. It’s part of growing up.

Maybe, but still light years better than having the State Government in charge. Look at what is happening in Florida

I'd love to know the names of the schools that voted yes. Will they have the results posted somewhere? It's clear that 80+ percent know this is a horrible idea. The government needs to stay out of it.

Full Freshmen Eligibility passed 169-168.
That is a big win for the LHSAA and needs to be a bargaining chip against the legislature.

No more attendance zone restrictions for students entering LHSAA schools in the 9th grade. (I believe it was amended to include 7/8 grade too, but not 100% sure)
So an incoming freshman will be fully eligible upon entering an LHSAA school regardless of where they live.
This is how most states operate; it was long overdue for the LHSAA.
