Scheyer has done a great job, but he needs a title very soon.

Aside from the interim year with fickell, the OSU program has been an absolute machine going back to the mid 90s under cooper.

I’d say they were both born rounding second and have now made their way to third.

Brian Kelly could win a championship with the Buckeyes

Why couldn’t he win one with the Tigers?

LSU has more pitfalls on their schedule than the Buckeyes.

Compare the 2024 schedule

Scheyer was a hell of a player at Duke. He was a HS all American, won a state championship in Illinois in basketball, all American, and won a national title at Duke.

I’m not sure how that resume has any entitlement? Sure plenty of guys have done that, but 99% have not.

ETA: now Steven pearl…ugh

James Franklin could win at OSU. That’s saying something.

Do people not know Ryan Day’s history? I’m so confused by this thinking….
Dude

No lol

I was shocked to see he played college football when I googled it after seeing this thread. Now, I realize a good portion of that is on me

One should probably assume he did play football at some point.

They've had a CFB HOF head coach every year since the 1940s. Insanity.

Ryan Day.

It’s easier - not easy, mind you, but easier - for blue bloods to win in football than basketball. In football, physical superiority (which is easier to both evaluate and utilize) matters more, diamond in the rough players matter less, the best players stay longer, and you’re less likely to get beat in the postseason by a mediocre player who will be selling insurance in a few months who just so happened to have a once in a lifetime night hitting 3’s on your arse.

NIL and the portal have made all this a little trickier, but I would still say it’s easier for a good coach to win in football after taking over an elite program in top form due to fewer variables than basketball.

How was Sheyer born on 3rd base?

HS all American
State championship in Illinois
College all American
National championship in college

Sure he took over young.

He just took a team to 27-3 and back to back Elite 8s.

Guy is 38.

He was out coached today no doubt. By Dan Hurley, arguably the best coach in college basketball right now.

Have him coach West Virginia instead of Duke and see how many elite 8s he makes.

You could say that with any coach.

Hubert Davis has done a lot less with basically the same

I’ve been very impressed with Scheyer. It’s never easy to be the guy that follows a legend. But Duke is well coached. And he knows how to put together a team in this portal/NIL era. Didn’t skip a beat after losing Flagg and Knueppel.

Great point. He followed one of the all-time greats. That usually doesn’t go well for anybody. Gene Bartow was good, but left after two seasons in Westwood. Bill Self has been great, but Roy didn’t win in Kansas. Hubert Davis is gone. Kentucky has had issues. I think Scheyer stays at Duke a long time and ends up with some hardware.
