NEW YORK (AP) — Los Angeles FC lead owner Larry Berg predicts Major League Soccer will surpass Major League Baseball in popularity during the next 10 years and Inter Miami owner Jorge Mas maintains it will be of higher quality than the Premier League and La Liga by 2045.

MLS anticipates the status of soccer in the U.S. will be boosted when the Americans co-host the 2026 World Cup with Mexico and Canada.

“We definitely have the demographics in our favor, both in terms of youth and diversity. So I think we’ll pass baseball and hockey and be the No. 3 sport in the U.S. behind football and basketball,” Berg said. “I think we will be the league of choice. I think we’re already a league of choice to a certain extent, whether we can be a top-five league or a top-three league will really come down at the end of the day to money, our ability to compete for players.”

How's the MSB feel about this? Can soccer overtake baseball in the near future?

20 years, maybe
10 years, not a chance

MLS is the NFL Europe of Soccer. All the elite players play in European leagues.

MLS is just a minor league for Americans needing exposure and old European vets looking to coast for a few years into retirement.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting, but it sounds like he means soccer, not specifically MLS.

Including LigaMX and the big 5 in Europe it's already super popular. That will burst open in 2026 and following.

LOL they are crazy

MLS isn't even close to a top 10 soccer league in the world

People in this country will keep watching the euro and mexican leagues over MLS.

Baseball will never die. The college game is still growing. Teams all over the country are starting to invest more and more in the sport.

Don’t tell that to Atlanta fans.

If the best players in the world come play in the US I will become fan. My issue with the MLS is that it is a minor league.

England, Spain, Germany, Italy and their top 2 leagues. France, Portugal, Russia, Netherlands and maybe Turkey. That’s 13 Mexico, Brazil and Argentina are prob only slightly better than MLS. I’d put it at close to 15th best league.

For about 25 years old, I’d say that’s pretty good. I fed see it surpassing South America in 10 years
