And yet, MLB refuses to work it out with the teams and their networks to lift local blackouts and allow in-market streaming on MLB.TV. MLB’s greed knows no bounds.

Roger Goodell’s antics with things like Bountygate and Deflategate have overshadowed the fact that Major League Baseball is far and away the most poorly run professional sports league among the Big 4 leagues in the US. And I say that as a big baseball fan.

The MLB is consistently behind the curve with regard to social media presence, player marketing, embracing technology, and making its product more widely available and accessible by moving away from outdated concepts like blackouts.

They had a golden opportunity last spring to dominate the airwaves when no sports or original programming was on and quite literally the entire country was at home, but the league and players association decided they’d rather pick the scab of >100 years of labor grief than try to formulate a plan to continue playing and avoid an elongated work stoppage. In typical MLB fashion, they were shortsighted and missed an incredible opportunity.

Factor in the number of people not watching on Bally because they've shut out the biggest streaming providers.

I'm sure there are dozens of you.

(I kid, I kid... I don't know obviously.) Fortunately I'm out of market for the Astros so I can watch all of their games on MLB TV unless they happen to be playing the Braves or Reds.

This is why I don’t understand why MLB even got involved with the all star game debacle.

They have a chance to really take over a good chunk of viewership, as they’ve managed to stay out of the political stuff relatively well before that.

It’s a non factor

You guys think your feelings are more important than what they are. This isn’t why viewership is down in other sports

I doubt any of this is true. The numbers are likely fudged and manipulated specifically so they could put out this press release in response to the backlash they got for the political stunt.

"See we were right to do it! Trust our own generated numbers right here!"

The fact they needed to put out an everything is fine press release means it likely isn't.

Viewership is going down either way, but it's going down faster because of all the woke shite.

That’s how I took this. Why find some obscure viewership numbers with a very narrow scoop and release it to the press? Seems like they are trying too hard IMO

T mobile offered a full season of mlbtv for free to all 100 million customers. Could this be the reason for the increase?

It's truly remarkable. Mike Trout could fly to Columbus, go shopping at any mall, and most people wouldn't even know who he is. The fact that Mike Trout hasn't been on TV commercials and in every household for the last 10 years is truly amazing. I never see MLB in commercials. MLB has failed in grand fashion when it comes to marketing and using social media to market the game.

Bally sports is where FoxSports regions used to be. NBCSports has a lot of the NBA and MLB team coverage as well but they still remain the service. Spectrum carries the Lakers and Dodgers, MSG carries the Mets and Knicks and YES carries the Yankees and Nets. That's about it as far as I know.

Bally sports is not on any streaming service

I canceled Hulu and signed up for MLB for this exact reason.

My 9 year old is a baseball nut and he wouldn’t recognize Mike Trout if he walked into our house, yet he knows Johnny Bench because he’s on those Blu-Emu pain relief cream commercials all the time.

What’s truly odd is that this type of marketing immaturity is a relatively new dynamic for MLB. Baseball players used to be everywhere and market quite literally any type of product.

To be fair Bally sports is not on any streaming service just on cable packages which forces you to use mlb tv with a vpn.
