Luhnow set the price high knowing that he didn't really want to trade Norris and he's said as much all along. No reason to give him away when he's cheap and controlled for two more seasons.

Or it seems like he is holding out because he doesn't have to move him today.

:telephone rings:

"Hello, front office of the Texas Rangers, how may I help you?"

"Yes, this is Jed Hoyer, GM of the Cubs."

"I'll send you to Mr. Ryan, Mr. Hoyer. One moment."

...

"Yella, this is Nolan Rine."

"Mr. Ryan, Jed Hoyer of the Chicago Cubs."

"Who?"

"Uh..."

"I'm kidding, boy! What can I do ya fer?"

"I'm calling about Garza. How about some prospects to get him back in a Cubs uniform?"

"Are you insane?"

"Hear me out...outfield prospect Brett Jackson, 3B prospect Josh Vitters and pitching prospect Trey McNutt. They're all yours. Plus, we'll pay Garza's salary."

"Hot dang! It's a deal! P.S., tell that queer manager across town he's a knucklehead."

with the lack of MLB ready arms the Astros have, it may be smart to hang on to Norris.

he is under team control and is your best pitcher on staff.

If they truly think their farm system is as stocked as people say, build around Norris.

so you add a few prospects that may or not pan out. You're left with maybe 2 MLB caliber guys in your starting rotation

Seems to me his value is as high as it will be with the 2 years of control left. He's basically a league average pitcher anyhow.

Only an idiot would give up a top prospect for that.

Seems like Luhnow had unrealistic expectations.

Not sure what astros want in return, but even in a light pitching market a #4 starter or bull pen arm (for teams that would be trading for him) isnt' going to command very much.

Someone in here stated that Carter and Norris would be good for the Rangers.

I totally disagree. I don't think Norris would crack the current rotation.

As for Carter, we have so many high strikeout/power guys in the lineup that he doesn't really fit. I'd rather Moreland, personally.

First i got a chuckle out of that. Second, and back to serious talk, didn't vitters get hurt...again.

I'm sure the Cubs won't trade Samardzija to the Pirates unless they get Taillon. I would want Taillon and at least one other good prospect.

Taillon's lack of dominance kind of worries me. For as good as he is supposed to be.

Gerrit Cole too.

Yeah he actually rocks a necktie, or at least he did yesterday. I pretty much don't believe anything anybody says until it happens, similar to the nfl draft. So much of that info is strategically placed out there like bait.

I concur. He is not missing enough bats. Giving up more than 1H/IP is pretty horrible for a supposed top 15 prospect.

Rumors that the Indians are now inquiring on Norris. Even though his stock has rapidly fallen I would happily take Bauer and a mid-level prospect.

Bauer?

You are overvaluing Norris, buddy
