Their top 4 prospects are OF, so one was bound to move

See, the Astros gave up their #1 prospect in Gilbert. Since money is no object for the Mets, I kinda like what they’re doing here. Instead of letting the Rangers and Astros paying Scherzer’s and Verlander’s salaries and only getting a group of 4 or so lower lotto prospects, they’re picking up salary and grabbing their top guys that are closer to sure things.

As a Braves fan, I kinda hate it.

Looks like he is their only top 100 prospect, I'll take it for a guy we got 16 starts out of. After this and the Acuna move we have 5 Top 100's plus the rookies we have up now in Alvarez, Baty and Vientos getting good playing time. I like the youth movement that is coming.

Mets have gotten some good prospects for Max and JV. Greatly improved their farm

Agree 5 Deep. If I were a Mets fan, I'd like the returning players.

I mean I guess. It’s using their resources to get some value out of a complete disaster of a situation. But it is still a disaster of a situation

I was half expecting Raley to come back with JV. He would fit and is having a nice year

Eh, not really. We still have our core, got some young talent in the pipeline now and we are still going to spend money in the offseason. Our pitching is worrisome right now, but not worried about the overall team.

As a Mets and Bama fan, I'm torn on Gilbert. On one hand, it's good for the Mets farm system, but on the other hand, frick Tennessee.

What’s the alternative? It’s already a sunk cost, why not try to get some young assets out of it?

Winning next year?

And a record payroll sunk cost is a disaster of a situation, yeah

It would be a disaster if they didn't do this anyway, so in that case I would take the option where they spend less money than they would have anyway and come away with multiple top 100 prospects
