I don't know much about what prospects they have, do they have enough to go after Escobar(Dozier) and a bullpen piece?
Dozier isn't hitting but has that 2nd half hitting reputation

They have the pieces to go after either one but there are a few things to consider: they are dangerously close to the luxury tax line and the farm system is absolutely terrible. Escobar and Dozier are rentals though so maybe they don’t cost too much. Regardless Milwaukee will outbid Boston.

The farm system isn't great right now, but Escobar shouldn't cost a ton seeing as he'd be a rental. The biggest problem with any acquisition (like TRich said) is avoiding going over the luxury tax. Not because of money, but because they'd drop 10 spots in the draft if they do go over it.
That being said, Escobar is only owed about 2.4m for the rest of the year and banners hang forever

Tduecen what are your thoughts on who the Yankees might get in terms of starting pitching. Is Happ still looking likely? You guys could really use another SP to go along with Severino, Sabathia and Tanaka. Sonny Gray can’t handle the pressure of pitching in NY.

Yankees are still looking but apparently, the asking price is still considerable. Happ seems the most logical fit but the Yankees have been connected to DeGrom, Thor, Wheeler, Matz, Tyson Ross, Heaney, Hamels, Bumgarner, and Fulmer.
Tigers said they have no desire to trade Fulmer unless overwhelmed by an offer. Hamels I'm not sure where he puts the Yankees near the tax with Britton now in the fold. Yankees were about 15 million away prior to Britton. Bumgarner, the Mets pitchers, and Angels pitchers seem like a longshot. Archer could be an option as well but the Rays would want a haul for him it appears.
I would like to see the Yankees give Cessa, Adams, Sheffield, Acevedo, and Heller a chance as well. Tanaka looked fantastic last night and Cessa has looked good in his last two starts. Loisaiga looked fine before his injury as well.

Gary Sanchez out until the end of August according to Cashman

Good stuff thanks. Fulmer is on the DL right now with an oblique strain so I figured they would stay away from him anyway.
The Sox don’t hit lefties well so Happ and Hamels kinda scare me. Sheffield looks very good. Do you think the either the Yankees or Mets would consider a deGrom deal centered around Sheffield or is that too much?

He needs to make sure he fully heals before the playoffs. Came back prematurely and got thoroughly embarrassed all because he didn’t want to be on the DL. When healthy he’s a beast but Romine is perfectly serviceable until he gets back.

Not sure the Yankees want to move Sheffield at all, they're very high on him. Think if the Yankees and Mets made a deal it would center around Frazier/Abreu and then more prospects or young MLB talent like Drury. The deal doesn't get done imo unless Sheffield or Florial is included though.

It seems the Tigers won’t be moving some of their most notable potential trade assets, per a report from Jayson Stark of ESPN.com (via Twitter). Detroit isn’t interested in structuring a deal involving starter Michael Fulmer while he’s on the DL, Stark says, and the team likely won’t be moving outfielder Nicholas Castellanos “barring a huge overpay.” Given those stances, other organizations will presumably turn their attention to alternative, more realistic targets over the final days of pre-deadline dealing.

There’s wide interest in Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today (via Twitter). Indeed, a whopping nine teams are said to be “in discussions” with the Kansas City organization on a possible agreement.

The San Diego Padres have reportedly checked in on the Mets’ Noah Syndergaard as part of a hunt to add top-flight pitching to their rotation, according to The Athletic’s Dennis Lin. This comes after already checking in on Rays starter Chris Archer, as reported by Ken Rosenthal.

Don’t the Padres have like 10 of the top 100 prospects in baseball? The Hosmer signing made little sense and now this. Preller either needs to stand pat or keep selling. If he doesn’t he deserves to be fired.

Based on MLB's top 100, they have 7 of the top 50, and 3 more in 51-100, so, yes.

It makes plenty sense as recent successful teams with loaded farm systems all had veteran mlb talent when these teams broke out.
Cubs, Astros, & Yankees specifically. Rarely does a club grow to be strong without good veteran. Or an ace like Syndergaard. These are necessary pieces even to rebuilding teams

The problem is Thor is a 25 year old who is controlled through the 2021 season. The return would have to be enormous, thus weakening the farm system. Why not just stand pat and develop the young guys? SD shouldn’t be in a rush.
