I’m glad the players didn’t give up the option to file a grievance for 60 games.

Agree 110%. Neither side wanted to compromise or give an inch to the other.

Respectfully disagree on this point. Pick whatever side you want but the issues regarding service time & free agency signings has been the main source of contention for a long time now.

Pandemic issues didn’t sour the relationship, it just gave both parties an earlier chance to fight.

I don't give a shite anymore. Both parties tanked the season and soured their working relationship to the point that it's going to frick up another season in the upcoming CBA negotiations. Ultimately whatever unique circumstances that had to be agreed to for a shortened season pale in comparison to the damage they've done in regards to negotiating the next 5 years of the CBA.

I'm as big a baseball fan as you'll find and at this point I really just dont care anymore if they salvage some farce of a season or not. I'm on to college football.

I'm with you. No more tickets to games, concessions, parking, merchandise, or MLB Extra Innings money from me. They can all kiss my arse.

The 2020 season is now slated to proceed under the terms of the late March agreement previously reached between MLB and the players’ association. The league has issued an announcement stating that the owners unanimously agreed to launch the campaign after further negotiations with the players failed to result in a new deal.

The campaign “will definitely” be sixty games in length, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today (via Twitter), though the league announcement doesn’t so specify. Rather, the announcement asks that the players inform the league as to the readiness to begin Spring Training before assessing schedule length.

Major League Baseball has asked the MLB Players Association if players can report to camp by July 1 and will sign off on health-and-safety protocols. The union has been asked to respond by 5 p.m. Tuesday.

In other words: MLB is planning on a season.

MLB notes that provisions in the framework deal rejected by union will not be in place, including 1) universal DH for 2 yrs 2) $25M in player playoff pool 3) $33M in salary forgiveness 4) Overall earnings of 104 pct of prorated pay (counting playoff pool and salary forgiveness $

The owners aren’t scared of the MLBPA in that area. They want to jump ahead of winning the popular opinion vote.

Crazy how the owners were the bad guys and now they’ve turned it around. This is a very bad look for the players.

Siding with millionaires is so noble.

How about trying this: Both sides suck. Why is this hard to understand? Why do suckers like you and many of the dipshits in the media struggle to quit sucking off the players?

Owners are scum. No argument there. But a large percentage of people act like the players are noble martyrs. That couldn't be a bigger joke of a thought.

Don't know about the owners turning it around. They're certainly not a sympathetic party in this. I think the players gambled and lost as far as public support with the coordinated "when and where" message though. The average fan doesn't understand or generally care about the complexities of labor negotiations. It was never as simple or straightforward as "when and where" but the players made that their public message and then rejected 2 more proposals from the owners.

Reading through twitter comments on the news that has come out, theres a lot more finger pointing at the players than there has been and a lot of mocking the when and where line. They'd probably like a do over on that PR push.

Rich players who already got bad made sure some of the younger guys won't get paid. They never seem to think of the future outside of their own interests, which is why the owners always win these things.
