MLB will not be played. If owners push for the salary cap, then the players will refuse. Now, the player union is kinda dumb, so if the owners offered them better health coverage with an opportunity to reach FA faster, they would probably agree to it. Really focusing on the here and now instead of the future.

Depends if you're on one of the teams under the floor. I know there are trades and free agency every year, but there are 30 teams and 15 were under. Seems like a good time to be in a contract negotiation if your team has to come up to the floor.

Now I get it from the other side too, if I'm on the Dodgers, Yankees, Mets etc and they're going to start releasing players and signing cheaper contracts, you wouldn't like to be in that situation, but it would benefit far more players.

Someone else said in here, raise the league minimums, more benefits, and it would work for everyone.

Unless players can hit FA earlier, you will have more and more Anthony Rendon-type contracts, where players who are closer to 30 get big deals, so teams can reach the floor. Could see owners then asking for fewer guarantees from the contracts to give them an out.

They are going to be shorter term as a result

That's a higher floor than I was expecting.

Isn’t the NFL floor something like 80% of the cap?

don't know how some these teams would even get to 70% without just shoveling out shitty contracts in the short term.

Doesn’t the article state only the marlins are currently below?

The question becomes: if MLB has a significant lockout, which players are killing their HOF chances, or those looking for certain numbers?

2020 hurt a lot of players; teach those counting stats, but gotta think players like Machado, Harper, Schwarber, Judge, Trout, DeGrom, Verlander, etc., players hoping to hit certain numbers or move into HOF status are going to be hurt.

I’m surprised the floor is that high. Most small market teams don’t have the local TV money or attendance to support that level.

The fact they all agreed to this as the first proposal should tell you they probably do

I think the front office plays is to try to dump as much salary as they can toward the end of the year

the load up with new negotiating powers

It’s a 10 year contract that pays interest over 20 years. So basically took $700M -interest = present day value of ~$450M or whatever it is over 10 years. That’s the figure against the cap.

If the NHL can survive a lockout season 2004-2005 baseball can surely survive a lockout season or two.
