Apparently the Mets are going to give Edwin Diaz over $100m

Yeah, I think breaking the bank for closers is not a good percentage play and not sound baseball business, even if he does have a popular walk out tune.

Diaz has been inconsistent his whole career. That's a high risk deal for the Mets.

What do the astros do about first base ? We keep Mancini ?
Most likely scenario is a veteran on a 2-4 year dear.
Mancini, despite his terrible numbers as an Astro, would be on that list. Also Brandon Belt, Jose Abreu, Yuli if he doesn't retire. I don't see the Astros paying big for Rizzo or Bell.
Second most likely scenario, they fill internally, with David Hensley and Yainer Diaz being the most likely options.
Third option... longshot... an off season trade for someone with a bit of control like Christian Walker. It would likely cost Luis Garcia or Urquidy, but one would be expendable if JV comes back.
Long long shot, Correa wants to come back and accepts a move to 1B.

He was coaching at Oklahoma St with his brother. He helped Carpenter fix his swing. At look what he did with the Yankees.

To be honest, while I hated what he did against the Cubs he seemed like a good dude and respect he's a good ballplayer. Glad he's doing well as a coach and happy to hear he's finding success in that.

Announce ohtani being traded to the dodgers

Judge and Stanton pictured with Judge’s wife at the NYC Marathon. It’s hard to believe that these guys can hit a baseball out of a major league park.

That's over now and I have no doubt it won't be the spending that will be the issue....unless it's stupid spending - like the Rangers.
They have some big contracts coming off the books so not like they don't have money to spend. I don't think they'll splurge on big long term contracts, maybe short term ones.
I don't expect much but with the better second half last year and with the NLC being like it is, not like they don't have a shot. Not expecting it but anything could happen. So long as they don't have a 2022 Reds like collapse at the beginning of the season.

I agree, They will offer shorter contracts with higher per year payouts, and I'm all for that. These 10-13 year contracts are unsound and hamstring organizations for a long time.
Cubs will definitely go after all four of the big SS players on the market and almost certainly get one of them and I do believe they will agressively also go after a front line starter.
Where the Cubs have struggled of recent years is hitting on the bridge type free agents - constant fails on guys like Descalso, Andrelton Simmons, Villar, Sogard, etc.
I thought Miley was a great signing then he was hurt all year. Stuff like that - even if and when (because I think they will) they go out and sign the big free agents they still get quality depth that can bridge the gap until this young talent is ready.

5 yrs /$102MIL w/an option for a 6th year and can opt out after 3 years
Never change, Mets. Never change

Degrom and Bogarts both opted out.
Degrom would look good w/a tomahawk across his chest.

Gonna cost damn near $50M AAV to get him, IMO
Posted on 11/8/22 at 7:43 am to VADawg
I'd walk away from that and I'm sure AA would also. He doesn't want one guy making that much.
Posted on 11/8/22 at 7:45 am to SteelerBravesDawg
Our pitching is fine. Let’s spend $50MM improving left field and the bench.

The National Baseball Hall of Fame this morning announced the eight players who’ll be considered for induction by the Era Committee, formerly known as the Veteran’s Committee. Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Curt Schilling, Albert Belle, Don Mattingly, Fred McGriff, Dale Murphy and Rafael Palmeiro will each be under consideration. Any player who receives votes from 12 members of the 16-person panel will be inducted into the Hall of Fame, along with anyone selected by 75% of the voters on the Baseball Writers Association of America ballot.
Do any get in? Could see McGriff, Murphy, of Mattingly finally getting in
Posted on 11/8/22 at 8:20 am to Errant_Knight
I don't have a good feel for the Veteran's Committee, but I expect them to be less sanctimonious than the writers, so Bonds, Clemens, and Schilling will all have a goid shot.
ETA: Murphy and Mattingly were on the ballot the last two iterations and didn't get much support.

American league in my mind there is only one team close to positioning themselves to take Down Houston next year and it's Seattle. If they go sign a Rodon or degrom and a Rizzo or convince Crawford to move to 2b and sign one of the big SS free agents they are well positioned with their pitching to be a postseason threat.
Posted on 11/8/22 at 1:47 pm to Tiger Ryno
I would say Cleveland, but they aren't going to spend big on anyone. The Yankees are going to lose Judge and Rizzo, they might not even be a playoff team.
