Good point. I wonder if any other organization will get a deal as big as what the dodgers got simply because of how awful it's been for the cable company. Makes me worry about where the Dodgers will be in 20 years when the current deal runs out...or if TWC will nees to back out halfway through

There is some long standing carriage dispute with Time Warner Cable and Dodgers. I don't think that will happen with FSN Midwest.

Well as I said, ESPN just bought Fox Sports Midwest last week. ESPN is buying some smaller market regional networks and FSMW was/is one.

No one really knows right now what that means for the Blues/Cards broadcasts.

It is part of a recently announced mega-deal in which Disney is buying many 21st Century Fox properties. It is acquiring not only 22 Fox-owned regional sports networks around the country, including FSM

ESPN Midwest if they keep the same name.

The dispute isn't between the dodhers and TWC. It's between the dodgers and TWC against the other LA area cable providers. TWC gave the dodgers 8 billion over 25 years with the expectation that they could just bend people over a barrel with their fees like they did with the Laker deal and that just didn't happen

How awesome would it be if ESPN Midwest hired Jenny Finch?

I just knew there was some big carriage issue with Sportsnet LA or whatever it's called. I thought only Time Warner Cable was the only outlet in LA aired the channel. When I lived out there Adelphia was my cable provider, but I guess they got bought out. Angels, Lakers, Kings, were usually on FSN West/KCAL. Dodgers, Ducks, and Clippers were usually on FSN West 2/KTLA. Even though I didn't like any of the teams, it was nice being a sports fan and there always a game on at least one of the channels.

Yes. TWC, which is now under charter, is the only major cable carrier with the dodger network. At&t and directTV are not picking it up. It was actually found this past March by the justice department that at&t and directTV are colliding against charter to keep anyone from picking the network up. So it's still far from being resolved

Yikes. I guess Dodgers are still making bank regardless. Time Warner Cable is the provider in KC. We stayed up there a few years ago, I was surprised to get the Dodgers TV network 1500 miles away. For some reason, when I lived out there we always got all the Hawaii games that didn't start until 9:00. Got a bunch of UC Riverside, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara hoops games too. My goodness, there were always some game on if you were a sports fan.

More people probably can watch the dodgers in KC than in LA

Haha. That would be both funny and sad. I guess people could find the stream on Reddit if they wanted to watch bad enough. Is Alanna Rizzo still on Sportsnet LA?

Well this is a bit of a head turner...

quote:

To this point, the Cubs and Cardinals have shown the most interest in free agent right-hander Jake Arrieta, according to Levine. The Cubs reportedly may be willing to offer a four-year, $110MM contract to the soon-to-be 32-year-old Arrieta, who mostly thrived with the team from 2013-17.

Tbh I don't really want him, but we do need another starter and 4/110ish isn't that bad for him I don't think.

I’d rather keep Lynn, but wouldn’t be against Arrieta. I’ve been hearing there is some interest in Hosmer.

Yeah, I've seen that as well. We are still talking with both Hosmer and the Jays on Donaldson.

I don’t see Carpenter sticking at 3B, so he would likely have to be dealt if Hosmer were signed. I think it will take at least $150M to sign Hosmer though. It would take a similar deal for Ozuna to get Donaldson if Blue Jays even want to move him. Why does the team have no interest in Moustakas?

They also bought Fox Sports Southwest.

I am terrified what this means to Ranger games.

Hosmer has a 7-year deal on the table (Nightengale) from San Diego.
