The problem with Stanton is that if you trade for him and he is great like this year, you likely have him for 3 years at $75 million. If he regresses or gets hurt, which is quite possible for a guy with his size and injury history, you have him for 10 years at $300 million.

Chance you take really, same thing with teams next year bidding 300 million for Harper, Manny, etc

Well, that depends on if those guys have opt outs too. Plus those guys are younger.

2018 they are all Free Agents.... sooooooooooo

I get that. What I’m trying to say is there is a ton of downside risk with Stanton, but the opt out may cap the upside. Those other guys will still have similar downside risk, but if they don’t include an opt out in their contract, the upside isn’t capped in the same way for the signing team.

Well we have no idea the contracts they will sign, I assume almost all will include some kind of opt out after 3 years so they can resign for more before their 30's really kick in.

I like a lot of those. I wish more teams would wear awesome logos on their hats instead of boring letters.

NOVEMBER 20: League action seems to be imminent, as Ben Badler of Baseball America reports that MLB has set meetings for tomorrow with certain Braves prospects.
NOVEMBER 15: It’s been more than a month since Braves general manager John Coppolella and international scouting director Gordon Blakely resigned amid a league investigation into what has since been reported to be an “unprecedented” level of rules violations on the international market and in the domestic amateur draft. While there’s yet to be any official resolution, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Braves will “definitely” lose some prospects that were signed out of Latin America.
Previous reports have suggested that top 2016-17 signing Kevin Maitan, who received a $4.25MM signing bonus, could be among any potential losses, though it’s not yet clear which prospect(s) Atlanta stands to lose. There could be further penalties yet, however, as David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution tweeted earlier this morning that it seems likely that the Braves will be banned from signing any international amateurs for at least one signing period. O’Brien also noted that there’s a “good chance” the Braves will lose some prospects as punishment, while Mark Bowman of MLB.com tweeted that he’d be “surprised” if the Braves didn’t lose at least one prospect, listing Maitain, Ji-Hwan Bae and Abrahan Gutierrez as potential prospects that could be impacted.

losing a few prospects could be big

I like that the hats are lighter, but hate the new rubber material on them.

Does Trout have an opt out in his deal?
Posted on 11/20/17 at 8:50 pm to CRDNLSCHMCPSN11
Doesn't appear but will be a FA at 28 in 2020, he will be paid 35 million his last year of his deal and 34 the year before

I read that too last night. So if the Braves lost prospects any team could sign them?
Posted on 11/20/17 at 8:53 pm to CRDNLSCHMCPSN11
I believe they could but it would cost them their international bonus money if those players are international players. Which is what it seems the league will go after, not players drafted by the Braves
Should make the Braves 1st round pick a FA as a real penalty

How much will contracts go up over time? Will we be seeing some star sign for $50M a year down the road?
Posted on 11/20/17 at 8:55 pm to CRDNLSCHMCPSN11
Yes. They'll be international free agents I believe

Bigger penalty would be to make their draft picks Free Agents
Posted on 11/20/17 at 8:56 pm to tduecen
I haven’t followed what they violated that closely. Did Braves have some illegal contact with prospects before they signed?
Posted on 11/20/17 at 8:59 pm to CRDNLSCHMCPSN11
Think they had a lot of behind the scenes deals with international players and what not. Things they should not have had
