Giants seem mostly content to run it back. Seems like a recipe for disaster after so many dudes in their mid-thirties showed out with career numbers this season. But I spent all year waiting for the complete collapse that never came, so I guess we'll see...

BREAKING: #Rays, Wander Franco moving close to long term deal. Not final, details still to be worked out after T-giving. Expected to be in line with original report; more than 10 years, guarantee close to $200M.

I don't like the agents that know they're about to lose a big client to one of the powerhouses locking their clients into super long term, well below value deals.

That seems very short-sighted for Wander with a new CBA coming up that could lead to a much earlier free agency.

He will be a FA at 32 with this deal, making 18.5 million a year.

Yeah, he's obviously taking the sure thing instead of betting on himself or he could be a FA at 27 and in line to make double that per year, after making a lot in arbitration. And that's under the current CBA. If under the new one he hits free agency at 25 or 26 he could make even more.

That's a great deal for both sides, assuming he stays healthy enough to perform

I'd like to see more deals like that for every team that intends to compete against the Astros for WS titles

Possible he could have earned 2 or even 3 times more by not signing. Also, possible he could have gotten injured, flamed out, etc. and only made a small fraction.

Seems like a good deal for both sides to me.

I'm saying this purely as an average dude with zero professional athletic skills, but if I get an offer for $233 mil, I'm taking it regardless of what I could possibly earn.

Right. He's taking the sure thing instead of the gamble.

I'm really just surprised he would take this before the CBA is figured out.

I’m not familiar with Franco’s situation but I imagine many Latin American players take the money if it will help their families.

He had an almost $4M signging bonus in 2017, when he was only 16. I'd assume league minimum salaries since then, which are pretty low for minor league guys and then MLB rookie minimum for 2021 which was the prorated portion of around $570K.

I have no idea about any endorsement money.

I hope he becomes as good as Harper with all the hype. As much as people hate Harper I think he has lived up to the hype that he received

I mean he is only 5'10" 190, so he isn't huge compared to Correa who is 6'4" 220, Seager 6'4" 215, Story 6'2" 215
