Cleveland has to keep Ramirez for PR purposes. The fans are still reeling from the name change. Combining that with dealing yet another star player would push more over the edge.

I was looking forward to seeing the 180 from Yankee/Dodgers fans who've called the guy every name in the book the last 2 years. I kept loling at the uni farks of Correa.
For my part, I had accepted the inevitable before seasons end that Correa would be somewhere else in 2022. Now as potential suitors keep dropping, I've gotten sucked back in. Between Watson/Correa watch, I'm burning up the refresh button on Twitter.

I like it, but I'm not crazy about 6 years. He'll be 37-38 the final year of the contract. With the DH now, he could possibly still be productive at that age.
Interestingly, the Dodgers top 1B prospect is a 17-year-old kid out of the DR (Samuel Munoz) they just signed this past International signing period. He should be ready to take over just as Freeman is getting put out to pasture

im not the biggest fan of paying a 32 year old first baseman who has never been great on defense 27 million until hes 38
even though i do believe his offensive game will age wonderfully. still, 27 for a DH is high as well but is what it is. still arent even top 10 in money committed to 2024 after this deal

Would obviously rather have Olson for 8/168 but the prospect cost will probably make it close as to whether this was the right move for AA.
I think this turns ugly for LA in the last few years unless they can talk Freddie out of trying to play every single day. Already had wrist and back issues.
This is the same guy who prior to last season was running on fumes literally every postseason because he refuses to take days off.

I don't think he ages badly, obviously he won't be as effective but he won't be Pujols either

Braves are said to have offered $140M for 5 years. Freeman had been seeking at least 6 all along. Got it in LA.

It's not close. It was absolutely the right move. frick the Braves hard, but they undoubtedly came out ahead here on paper.
Sure, Olson could all of a sudden develop chronic injury concerns or Pache could suddenly become the next Andruw Jones, but nothing points to those things happening.

Freeman deal isn't what I thought, really assumed he was getting close to 200m.
I don't find this a bad deal for Freeman considering he isn't an extreme 3 outcome guy, more line drive, he should hold up under it and now the DH is in play for him.

Think the combo of Simmons and Villar takes the Cubs out on Correa. Thought they were still in on him after Simmons but bringing in Villar probably signals they're not after him.

Reds may have traded away/lost Winker, Suarez, Gray, Garrett, Miley, Castellanos, Barnhart and Lorenzen this off-season but we did sign Colin Moran…so…

I never did think the Cubs were serious about him. They have spent SOME money. I've already accepted the fact that we are going to suck for at least the next 2 years. Look at all of the prospects that we added. They are at least 2 years away.

Just give the Reds the title now.

And they are paying Ken Griffey Jr. $3.6M. That's worth something.
