Who the frick gives Jason Heyward $184 million? That was the dumbest shite I'd ever seen.
Braves trade Heyward to keep Freeman, Cubs sign him to a $50 million larger contract, brilliant move

Are any of you LA or NYY fans hearing any noise regarding Freddie Freeman? I selfishly just hope he never hears from from a team willing to throw the purse at him but I doubt it. lol

I see some projections have him at Boston

Tigers early favorites for Correa.

I've been under the weather for a few days so I may have missed it but have we let the Austin Riley top 3 in MVP thread(s) go unchecked?
Obviously braves fans dgaf after winning the ship but those threads were still gold

We do. Braves dodged a massive bullet

Jason Heyward
To think, that the Braves chose Freddie(drafted same year as Jason, 2nd rd.) over Heyward and at the time people thought they were crazy.
That's why the Braves are who they are; one of the best organizations in all of sports, let alone baseball.

He should be top-3 in MVP voting.
If it weren't for him, they aren't hoisting the trophy last Tuesday night. Period.
And this ain't a fluke from him, either

Well he's not.
And the age old argument of "should the MVP be on a winning team" should really ramp up since this year the 3 finalists from each league are all from non playoff teams for the first time ever

That's b/c the writers are for the most part, morons.
It's turned into a popularity contest.

Forst addressed the club’s likely forthcoming payroll cuts this evening, telling Jon Heyman of the MLB Network (Twitter link) the team is willing to field offers for any player on the roster. “This is the cycle for the A’s. We have to listen and be open to whatever comes out of this. This is our lot in Oakland until it’s not.”

How any executive/coach works in Oakland is beyond me.
They’re gonna suck for a few years, and then make the playoffs 2 or 3 times, get beat in the WC or DS and then repeat the cycle again

Right-handed pitcher Joakim Soria is retiring, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, relaying word from Soria’s agent. The 37-year-old pitched for nine different teams over 14 MLB seasons.

In the article, Rome opines that the offer is merely a way for the front office to claim that they made an effort, and then pivot to free agents that can be had on short-term deals, or no free agents at all, with the aim of keeping the position available to be claimed by prospect Jeremy Pena. Due to wrist surgery, Pena only played 30 games at Triple-A this year, but they went very well. The 24-year-old hit .287/.346/.598, for a wRC+ of 126. He comes in at #42 on the FanGraphs list of top prospects across the league, although he doesn’t crack the top 100 at Baseball America or MLB Pipeline.
Until his arrival at the big leagues, the club could consider the in-house option of Aledmys Diaz, as Click describes him as “more than qualified” to take the job

With the Reds seemingly looking to cut payroll, the Dodgers are looking to capitalize, as USA Today’s Bob Nightengale writes that Los Angeles has had talks with the Reds about right-handers Luis Castillo and Sonny Gray. It isn’t known if the two sides progressed far into negotiations, or if the Dodgers were doing their due diligence on potential pitching acquisitions.
quote:
Nightengale also provides some numbers in regards to the negotiations, as Freeman and his representatives are looking for a deal in the range of six years and $200MM. That is a sizeable bump over one Atlanta offer that Freeman has already turned down, with the Braves offering $135MM over a five-year pact. Details weren’t provided on when exactly this five-year/$135MM offer was floated, whether it was a recent offer on the Braves’ part or if it came earlier in the year.

I don’t see Freeman getting anywhere near that contract. I think he gets around 25 to 30 million a year on a 5 or 6 year deal.
