It seems baseball has really come back from the strike and stertoids.

Just about every teAm has great attendance numbers. Even some. Of the horrible teams, like the Rockies

MSB says baseball is dying, and that's good enough for me

#2 Home average attendance, and #2 home total attendance.

#1 overall attendance. People wanna see da Cardz.

MLB is the best sport in the playoffs.

But I wait until then.

Nothing beats playoff baseball. Every pitch matters...and is fantastic.

Baseball's attendance numbers are up, but as far as TV goes, the game is pandering to an older crowd. It is becoming more regional like hockey in terms of broadcasts, and TV is where the big money lies. The pace of play issue is a big deal and the new commish will have to address that along with replay and plays at the plate as primary issues in today's game.

From the MLB Wikipedia page:

quote:

MLB has the highest season attendance of any sports league in the world with more than 74 million spectators in 2013.

Sure it helps that there are 30 teams playing 162 regular season games but that stat has to count for something.

Baseball is a regional thing but it still does well nationally

2013- NBA Finals averaged a 9.5 rating for 7 games
2013- MLB WS averaged a 8.9 rating for 6 games a game 7 would have helped

Are baseball WS low? No not unless you compare it to 20 years ago before the strike. Before football really cemented itself as the true #1 sport and before cable companies have you 500+ channels.

Baseball, basketball, and hockey will all stay below the NFL with baseball and basketball battling for #2. Baseball IMO is winning thanks to new revenue from television contracts, attendance is prospering, and the game is getting younger. Yes I am biased but television ratings don't paint an accurate picture.

They are raking in the TV money and attendance is great. That's the bottom line. Who cares if it's regional TV or national TV. you're splitting hairs there. And the pace of play is only a problem for people who are indifferent about baseball, people who wouldn't watch it anyway. your points basically summarize the ignorant opinions of baseball haters everywhere.

The real problem is the average of of baseball followers is drastically getting higher and higher on a yearly basis.

It may take 15-20 years, but eventually we'll see the effects of this I'm guessing.

Average baseball fan is 44
Average NBA fan is 36

So difference isn't dramatic but there is a difference.....

Pace of an MLB can be an issue but most games are 2:30 to 3:00 hours in length about same time as your average NFL/NBA game thanks to commercials.
