But for real what happens if Hosmer says frick that

And why would he agree to going from a playoff team in paradise to moving across the country to play for one of the worst teams in a baseball

He'll be compensated to give up his no trade clause.

And if Hosmer won't agree, Wil Myers will replace him in the deal.

San Diego #Padres 1B Eric Hosmer has NOT approved the trade to Washington. The #Nats are on his no-trade list. It remains to be seen if he changes his mind.

I'm sure that they would not have progressed this far into negotiations if they thought Hosmer was going to blow the whole thing up. They're just hashing out fine details at this point.

He may agree because now he knows he'd be hated by the home fans if he doesn't. That may have been the plan all along.

Hearing #Padres 1B Eric Hosmer is not thrilled about being traded to #Nationals, so it will likely take a chunk of money or maybe an additional year added to his already onerous 8-year, $144-million deal (3 years, $39 million left, through 2025) to get him to sign off on deal.

Or maybe not lol

Nightengale] There are no active negotiations going on with Eric Hosmer and the #Padres after he rejected the trade to the #Nats.

[Morosi] One scenario under discussion between #Padres and Eric Hosmer's reps: Hosmer may request that he end up with a team other than the #Nats as part of a 3-team deal. The situation remains fluid. @MLB @MLBNetwork
