The point was that the Heat had a better roster. Two top 15 players. Without LeBron's salary on the books they would've been competing for first in the East still.

What's so laughable? That frees up so much money for better role players. Wade doesn't sit out a portion of the year and Bosh plays like he did in Toronto with an expanded role.

Uhhhh the guy that tried to make a super team. Jordan didn't join up with Barkley and Ewing.

in 2 out of 4 Finals the Heat lost b/c RC and Pop out coached Spo big time.

Hell, it took a miracle shot for the Heat to stay in it to win last year.

Wait, are you saying the Heat would have been better off this year without Lebron James?

So the heat would be better with 2-3 role players instead of LeBron?
That's a hell of a theory.

He is saying that, like an MJ less Bulls in the middle of their run, they could have still performed well in the weak East with the extra $20 million to add some players.

He was countering what Adam Banks said that the Heat would basically be the worst team in the NBA with it's current roster minus LBJ.

ETA I never said anything like that. All I said was that Jordan less bulls went for 55 wins and advanced in the playoffs.

they're already over the cap and can't just add a bunch of role players if that money was gone

he can't do that anymore. his body will break down

That's a hell of a theory.

Keep spinning. That freed up money (roughly 20 mill) would be spent improving the roster as a whole. Not just on one player.

Not now but the last year or two he means.

Current roster minus LBJ and using his salary to add another player or two.

I see what he is saying in that they could still have been very competitive in the East like the Bulls were without MJ

LBJ and MJ though are both what puts those teams in the Finals ultimately though.

ggez Slow, just pretend they have some Bird Rights and the MLE to blow $20 mil on a better supporting cast. you gotta have some imagination.

even then. they are over the cap and have 1-2 exceptions they could use. that's it

it doesn't work that way. over the cap is over the cap. as long as their owner is willing to pay the luxury tax, that's all that will be affected (with the new CBA their exceptions are limited, but it's not that great)

also, that argument ignores what LBJ brings in terms of viability. ray allen passed up money to go to the heat. he wouldn't have done that without lebron. that savings is a role player itself (in terms that actually allow them to sign one). LBJ gets guys to sign for the vet min as role players.

Yeah, even if I agreed with the premise (and I'm not sure I do), they don't have a 2/4 without LeBron.

More likely, it's a 0/...well, 0.
