I’m getting a kick out of all the people complaining about how the Pats handled this search. What are they supposed to do, pass on hiring a proven commodity who also happens to be in the organization’s Hall of Fame? If you’re upset about how they handled the Rooney Rule, maybe that says more about how flawed the rule is in the first place.

I’m still trying to decide if this is racist or not.

Rooney Rule

It’s only a slap in the face when the orgs don’t take the interviews seriously. And if they aren’t taking any of the interviews seriously, then they are holding a bad coaching search

yeah trading AJ Brown and letting Derrick Henry walk? Carthon deserved to get canned.
Ummmmm, Carthon was not the GM when AJ was traded. That was Jon Robinson, who got fired for the decision among others.
And what would you have Carthon do about Derrick Henry? The dude was never going to re-sign here. He wanted a ring, and I don’t think any Titans fan with a brain blames him for leaving when we all know this team is a dumpster fire.
You can argue Carthon deserved to be fired, sure, but not for the above reasons.

But most know they're just being interviewed for that reason though and that's the slap in the face

But again, the person bringing them in for the sham is the team who is doing themselves a disservice.
Getting an interview is benefit to the candidate regardless of the legitimacy of it, it gets your name out there for other jobs. Also prepares you for what these interviews are like. But again the question should be why the teams don’t just take these interviews seriously while it is a rule besides complaining about the rule all the time and assuming all candidates who meet that criteria take it as an insult, which clearly isn’t the case given how most accept these interviews.
They can always decline the interview, Aaron Glenn did. But most don’t because there’s still juice worth squeezing for them.
