Mike Trout and the Angels

Reports are that the Angels are ready to offer Trout 10 years 350 million. Should he sign in? He will not be a Free Agent till 2021 at which point he will be 29. The way the market has been going what he has been worth is not what he will get.
So should he sign if this is a legit offer from the Angels or be ready to test the market at 29?

For that reason, it seems plausible that Trout will elect to test the market upon reaching free agency in 2021, and there’s no question that he’ll be in line for a far bigger raise than the ones Bryce Harper and Manny Machado scored this winter.

Should Trout find some common ground with the Angels before then, Rosenthal adds that it “would not seem unreasonable” if he did so to the tune of a 10-year, $400 deal, with an average annual value of $40 million/year. In fact, that may well be the starting point for negotiations, especially taking into account Trout’s immense value (just over $493 million, via FanGraphs) to the organization over the last near-decade.
quote:
I haven’t even thought about it,” Trout said. “Obviously, you guys [the media] bring it up a lot and I appreciate you asking me all these questions, but right now is not the time to think about it. I still have two years. […] In Spring Training, you’re trying to get ready for the start of the season, and you don’t want to worry about anything else. That’s the mindset right now, and we’ll go from there. […] I haven’t really thought about it. I’m happy with what [Bryce Harper and Manny Machado] got. They obviously wanted that and we’ll go from there. Like I said, I don’t think about that stuff.

Trout is Elite
Harper and Machado are not, big difference. Angels need to offer him 10 years 400 right now(front load it, 45 per for 5 years), and get it done now, no f'in around. If he gets to UFA, he gone.

But at 29 will he get 10 years 400 million or even 8 for 360

Test the market, but even if he doesn't want to, why sign now?

From what a car wreck or something? Mike Trout could blow out his knee and shoulder at the same time and still get 350 over 10.

If I was him, I would test it without a doubt.
Even if he doesn't hit that $350 mil mark in FA (which I highly think he will), would you really want to sign an extension to spend 10 years on a team that has made one playoff appearance in the last nine years (and was promptly sent home in three games)?

Staying there is a waste of his time. I hope Trout goes to a market where people finally get to see him play

Angels could sneak up on people eventually, however, I would sign because 35 million for 10 years would be a nice security blanket. He gets to live in SoCal etc

The Angels would be wise to learn a lesson from the Pujols contract. Don't give $240+ million dollar contracts to players in their 30s.
Pujols was the best player in the world and came to the Angels a .328 career hitter with more walks than strikeouts. Hes turned into a .260 hitter with a below average OBP. They'd be wiser to trade him and let somebody else pay him that dumbass contract. They will have already paid for Trouts prime productive years.

Does Trout want a championship or just a shite ton of money? What can/will the Angels surround him with?

Well if they do the 10 years they would get him till 37, not 42 (or 52 in Pujols care)

They've tried, injuries always seem to hurt him. They brought in Kinsler, Upton, Pujols, Simmons, Cozart, and Ohanti but their starting pitchers seem to be ravaged year in and out.

He'll lose about $60 million in taxes in California. He needs to GTFO and go win a championship elsewhere.

Angels should go to his agent today, offer him 10 years 400mil, and tear up his last deal, this one starts 2019-20 season(this)
A guy like him, you over pay to keep in his prime, and the Angels have a huge tv contract, they can afford his bad contract(last years) in 8 years.

Personally, I hope he plays his entire career with the Angels. I do think the Angels can win eventually

They are set up well once the Pujols contract is done

I just looked, they’re on the hook for Pujols for the next 3 years @ around $30 million/year. It’ll be 2022 before they free up some more space.
