I don't blame him at all for not wanting to fork over 7 million to the state of CA

How is he spoiled? He didn't become one of the best golfers in the world without working his arse off for it. And if he's putting in the work, of course he has the right to be upset about the amount of tax money that he has to pay

I've never been a Phil fan, but I have to say I like him more now.

Seriously, so many PGA guys live in Florida or at least "domicile" there for tax purposes. Keep a house in CA and your "home" in FL.

Read an interview with Lee Westwood. He said a lot of foreign players also live in Fla. They go back to visit relatives and play some tournaments but many of them do not even own a home in their native country.

I just saw on CNBC that he is probably paying closer to 50% after deductions, lower than the 65% he complained about.

But I agree I bet he is paying much less than 50%.

I guess I'm wrong about this, but I thought the players have to pay income taxes on their winnings to each state in which they earn money in a tourney. Is it solely based on your state of primary residence?

And, I don't see how semi-retiring from golf would help. He made close to $60 million last year, and all but $5-$6 million was from endorsements. Surely, those would stop if he quit playing. Seems like he'd be cutting of his nose to spite his face.

He probably has himself/his earnings incorporated. That incorporation is proabbly registered in California. therefore the cali tax policy.

I'd be pissed too if I was paying a 63% tax rate.
