Yes, that is what concerns me. Almost as if he has realized it would be tougher than he thought and has just mailed it in (for this year).

There are rumors (more than rumors, actually), and this is NOT an excuse just an interesting fact, that Harbaugh has had a severe hip problem since the Rome Trip and is on a lot of pills right now. He is getting a hip replacement surgery after season, I believe.

Couple that with having a baby at home, and it could be easy to lose focus.

This is very true. I was thinking he's over it and going back to the NFL. But this contract might prove he's there for the long haul.

Having to eat pills all day because of a shredded hip would certainly be a bummer

yeah, a lifetime contract would definitely fix that. Maybe just give him a normal extension at the same pay?

It's weird to have a son at home in diapers and a son on your coaching staff.

Not sure the details but it's probably just long term damage from nfl days.

He does have a limp on the sideline this year if you look hard enough.

Like I said, not an excuse for this mediocre year, but I could see it being somewhat debilitating from a coaching standpoint, if even walking from one unit to another during practice is a painful ordeal.

Or if you're trying to make decisions at practice or a game and all you can think is "frick MY HIP."

Peters or Mccaffrey. But neither will be any good if they don't fix the Oline. Harbaugh has to make changes on his offensive staff. I'll be interested to see if he does, or if he remains stubborn.
Could work out. He is going to stick to that old style of ground and pound that he learned a Michigan though. That is all he and Les knows.

Nowadays you need serious talent to win it all that way

Who the hell does Michigan think is trying to take
that POS away from them?

Even Jeff Fisher took a team to the superbowl.

Being dead serious. Y’all treating him like a schmuck but he’s going to be a nightmare for OSU and the playoffs when he gets a QB
He's going to have to get a stronger foothold on the south in recruiting. There is a reason that not many teams outside of SEC country have won many national titles in the last 35 years. Hell it is easier just to count those that have won that it is to count the teams that did.

Nebraska - 3(split)
USC - 2(1 split)
PSU - 2
tOSU - 2
Oklahoma - 2
ND - 1
Washinton - 1(split)
BYU - 1
Michigan - 1 (split)

That is 16 in the past 35 years. That is pretty solid at first glance, but if you dig deeper you'll see that it is getting harder for not southern teams.

Great points, I've been saying this since he got there. It's much harder now to win at schools like UM and ND. He'll have to dip into the south and the atlantic a lot more moving forward.

If you keep shrinking the year sample size down it becomes even more clear. For instance, lets do the last 25 years.

Nebraska - 3(1 split)
USC - 2 (1 split)
tOSU - 2
Michigan - 1(split)
Oklahoma - 1

20 Years:

USC - 2 1(split)
tOSU - 2
Nebraska - 1 (split)
Michigan - 1 (split)
Oklahoma - 1

15 Years:

USC - 2 (1 split)
tOSU - 2

10 Years:

tOSU - 1

so as you can see, the likely hood of anyone outside the south winning the title has been dwindling year by year and it is due to recruiting. You have to be able to get a significant makeup of southern players on your roster. 4-5 a class won't cut it.
