This thread is pointless until we know how many events he's competing in.

If it's so easy, why haven't you done it?

I am not knocking his record, but they should add running backwards and skipping so Bolt has a chance to keep up.

There is even walking, and bolt sucks at it.

I always thought it was kind of bullshite that with sports like basketball or volleyball you gotta win a bunch of matches... essentially the whole tournament... just to win one medal.

With swimming you swim for 50 seconds and here is your medal. You swim a slightly different way for 50 seconds and here's another medal. You swim with some partners and here's another medal. You swim a little bit longer than before and here's another medal, etc.

this, swimming seems to have 325 different strokes that you can medal in

Four. You over exaggerated just a wee bit.

But then add different lengths and relays and four strokes becomes an obscene number of medals.

No different that the obscene number of medals in track and field. To win a bunch of medals in either you have to be an extremely versatile athlete.

Greatest Olympian to me will always be Jessie Owens.

To be great enough for even Hitler to acknowledge you for wrecking an Olympics in Germany is pretty bad arse.

and then turn around, come home and to get snubbed by your own President...

Both sports skew the medal count drastically.

If it wasn't for the versatility I'd put Moses up there, in terms of singular impact it's hard to pass Owens (not to mention he never had the chance to show longevity what with the world being otherwise occupied during 1940 and 1944).

The only person I'd post on the same level is Carl Lewis- going from 84 to 96 in multiple explosive sports is nuts.

Prelims, semifinals, and finals... Yup, certainly seems like just 1 swim. A good portion of the basketball players would literally die attempting one 400 IM.

He was definitely part of two of the greatest Olympic finishes of all time:

400 Free relay with the insane Lezak finish
100 Fly coming from behind to win by .01
