It was the US’ decision to make the deal they did.

I saw the original tweet and knew somehow that it would play out like that.

Easy to say when you don't have millions in endorsements to lose.
So you’re saying corporations, either directly or in a roundabout way, forced someone to apologize for saying he’s angry that we didn’t include a marine in a prisoner swap?

Isn’t that a MASSIVE problem and a nearly exclusive to the left?

When I see this type of behavior on social media, I can't help but think of Horace Grant talking about the Pistons in the Last Dance documentary.

Anyone with any remote knowledge on the situation can have sympathy for Griner but should be dumbfounded we traded whom we did for her and couldn't get the Marine too.

Full disclosure, we shouldn't have traded for either or both. Insane.

Pretty sure it wasn't a choice to just pick 1 or the other, and it was rather, the Marine was off limits for the Viktor dude...no?

What kind of logic is this? Viktor wasn't leaving in free agency and giving us a shitty comp pick.

Never apologize. He'll probably end up having to apologize a couple of more times.

And still have everyone from all sides mad at him, plus the apology only adds eyes and controversy to original tweet.

State your opinion, then move on. Everyone else will do the same a lot quicker. Start apologizing, and you’re just extending the news cycle.

Whelan is not a retired Marine, he was court-martialed in 2008 for attempted larceny, false statements, dereliction of duty and other offenses and received a bad conduct discharged for the Marine Corp.

I hope he gets to come home soon but wanted to make sure the you guys were clear on his service record.

Not that it really matters but he is also a citizen of Canada, Ireland and the UK

Don’t we have another guy over there stuck in jail for marijuana?

Couldn’t have snagged him while we were at it?

Marc Fogel is serving a 14-year sentence after being arrested at a Moscow airport with medical marijuana in his luggage. He reportedly used medical marijuana after spinal surgery. He was in Moscow to teach.

Is it too much to ask for the teacher after Putin says no to the potential spy? And if Putin says no, is it wild to tell him “ok well thanks but we need more for your arms dealer of death?”

I know people are disappointed he caved to the mob, but I'm actually surprised to see any athlete be vocal about the marine being left behind. I regret he took it back as well.
