If tweet fails to load, click here. Ordinarily on the field, this probably would always be called incomplete.
But,as we learned in the Western Michigan / Michigan game, play (and the clock) immediately stops once a player touches the out of bounds.
Rules seem to be different regarding out of bounds situations.
Seems like he had the ball, with possession, then stepped out of bounds, thus immediately stopping play.
For the record, I hate both Notre Dame and Miami equally.

We've seen that exact play called complete this year so I guess nobody knows what a catch is anymore

I mentioned this in the SEC Thread:
1. I hate Notre Dame
2. You've got to watch it in real time, not just slow motion
3. He didn't "complete" the catch. He didn't maintain possession. This isn't like a QB diving to touch pylon in the corner of the endzone or that move Drew Brees was emphasis for (jumping over the center and holding the ball out over the goal line and then bring it back). You've got to complete the catch. He didn't. It was the correct call.

See, that’s all bullshite that we accept for some reason. I guess the NFL rules experts have brainwashed us.
He caught the football. Enough of this over officiating nonsense.

3. Maintains control of the ball long enough to enable that player to
perform an act common to the game, i.e., long enough to pitch or hand
the ball, advance it, avoid or ward off an opponent, etc., and
4. Satisfies paragraphs b, c, and d below.
c. If the player loses control of the ball while simultaneously touching the ground with any part of their body, or if there is doubt that the acts were simultaneous, it is not a catch.
The ball wasn't secure before the ND player knocked it out. Honestly, that's probably the only reason the player was even able to break up the pass. Had Lofton secured it, I don't think the ND player would have even been able to knock it out.

What does your hate for Notre dame have to do with anything???
Posted on 11/8/26 at 12:33 pm to GentleJackJones
If you stop it immediately at the 00:06 mark (watch Lofton's right hand) and immediately at the 00:08 mark (now, notice Lofton's left hand), you can plainly see he didn't have control/

Agreed. That is a catch and TD if you ask me.

I'd rather it be a catch

Correct - there was a bit of a bobble before Talich even knocked it out.
Only Mario Cristobal and Michael Irvin’s coked up arse seem to think it was a catch.

the refs just called the play the way it woulda been called if the attempted catch was still in the field of play. woulda been incomplete there as well. if a player establishes possession before the ball breaks the plain then loses it, that's fine, but he never completed the catch, never established possession. this isn't complicated.

Slowing it down distorts the reality of the play
Definitely not a catch

From that replay it looks like a catch.
