PSG has also lost to Manchester United 2 years in a row and were very lucky to make it out of the group stage. PSG has absolutely 0 argument for being the #1 team in the world.

He isn't leaving. This is just Barcelona putting public pressure on La Liga in regards to their financial fair play regulations.

Barcelona is in a financial shithole right now due to league rules only allowing to spend a certain percentage of revenue. They generated 1 billion in annual revenue in 2019 and 3/4 of that was eaten up due to bad contracts. Messi's last contract was like 4 years up to 675 million with a 139 million signing bonus and a 93 million loyalty bonus. 1.4 million a week. That shite is outrageous. Dude is approaching the twilight of his career and should not be renewed. All the years they took care of him you think he would take a discount to stay but in the end it was always about the money.

Yep. It is a money issue. Barca is in very bad shape financially.

Imagine being the GM and having to explain to fans how he failed to plan/implement a monetary strategy to keep the GOAT of his sport...

Do owners ever say this? "All the years we made money we just decided to not make as much this year because we've been on a hot streak" NO!

This is never the player's fault, they have short careers and they are doing their best to make the most.

Its on the player management to bring in the best players they can afford. Bad contracts is as old as sports, and will always be an issue.

I don't know what Messi is worth, but having a top 10 athlete in the world is worth a lot.

Sure, but Barca is basically an all star team of world talent. So if anyone has an excuse, its them. They can't afford everyone.

And as said, all this right now is mostly just politicking and each side vying for more leverage.
