Right, and if you're the mavs and you're trying to find that next piece to get you to the Finals and you think Wood is it then fricking yikes.
I’m not saying they are similar or will have the same impact, but people said the same when we traded for Tyson Chandler and re-signed Brendan Haywood (starting center that year) to a long term deal.
Once again in 2022, we came close to making a run with one primary guy and a cast of nobodies that stepped up and hit their shots.
I think for the moment I’ll give this Nike baw the benefit of the doubt.

Talk about someone that just fell off a cliff

It's not like the Mavs gave up any rotation players to get him either.
The fact we got him for basically the No. 26 pick is beyond solid for me. I know the draft is very deep this year, but the odds of an immediate solid contributor coming from there is slim

Don't forget Tim Hardaway Jr. comes back. Assuming we sign Brunson, you're looking at a second team of Dinwiddie-THJ-Bullock-Bertans-Powell

I'd say the Dinwiddie trade has him on the good side of the meter to start

The main problem for them is the guaranteed money on Wood’s deal if he doesn’t work out.
You mean the 14 mil that he's owed this year? He's on the last year of his deal.

The money is even in that All players traded are on deals that expire at the end of next season.

They have Hardaway coming back from injury next season. They have a solid top 8 for a playoff rotation, but I would still be worried if my number 2 option on offense is Brunson or Wood.
Wood
DFS
Bullock
Luka
Brunson
Dinwiddie
Hardaway
Kleber
(this is assuming they re-sign Brunson)

I misremembered how much was on his deal.
This tilts things back in the Mavs’ favor.
That being said, Houston still got a minor win by breaking one $14m contract into a bunch of smaller ones which are also expiring. Means that they can be involved in a lot of deals where a team needs to take back money but can’t make salaries match.

I’m not a Hardaway guy. Terrible defender. Black hole offensively. Streaky shooter. I don’t think Hardaway and Spencer can play together.
And the way the Mavs work their rotation, Brunson will get minutes with those guys. None of them pass.
Stein said there is no interest in Hardaway from other teams. I wouldn’t mind bringing in someone like Taurean Prince to be the backup wing. Someone on a podcast mentioned Gary Harris.
Mavs just need a competent 3 and D guy to backup DFS and Reggie. Danuel House is another guy.
