Not him. The Lions. He's not mediocre but he's not good enough to take them anywhere relevant

And people bitched and moaned about Brees who actually earned his pay while you got so many other guys making close to the same amount and Brees continues to put up top 3 qb stats the last several years

Winning the SB alone in NOLA justified any pay raise

To put in perspective that is a about $1.5 million per TD if you go off of last years numbers.

What has he done to justify this?

Serious question.

The Lions haven’t won a playoff game since 1991, and Stafford is 51-61 in his career as a starter, including 0-3 in the postseason.

I guess this may really be the last year of Drew in NO. That sucks.

Graded out as a top 10 qb (Pro Football Focus) on a team that hasn't had a good consistent starter before him in a market that will demand top dollar for even decent quarterbacks due to scarcity. 4 straight 4,000 seasons doesn't hurt either.

The Atlanta Falcons may disagree.

Good for him. Certainly not his fault the Lions suck.

He's done nothing. He has a losing record as a starter.

He has as many playoff wins as Trevor Seimian.

This contract is a joke.

It's a result of the market and the value placed on quarterbacks. If you're able to actually understand that, it makes sense. If you just see lots of numbers and "hurr durr no playoff wins" then it won't make sense to you.

If the Lions didn't to pay him, 3 teams would have been lining up to stroke those checks. Would you rather have a solid, Top 10 QB who is seemingly overpaid. Or take your chances in the draft/free agency?

That's an indictment of his organization. Anyone can see he's more than enough of a QB for them to win and win consistently.

I would not have paid him that much if I was Lions brass

More money in Stafford just means less money for help around him.

I don't see how this makes the franchise any better.

If the Lions weren't going to pay him, another franchise was.

So simple question, would you let him walk?

You don't see how securing a top 10ish QB makes the franchise better? Good lord.
