But, but, but people were arguing last night that it makes no sense because it would just be a couple of million extra a year maybe.

please please please
well all no the ACC is bent over grabbing its ankles to do what ever they can to keep FSU happy right now. FSU is not a historical ACC school so they really could be like frick were out.

Not you pal. Someone was arguing about Maryland.
Plus the TV deal gets renegotiated in 2017 and that could be $$$$ for all schools involved.

I wasn't trying to bash the B12.
The B1G is reportedly worried about geography in their moves, while the B12 worried about getting the best programs they could.

It's not about the "splash", it's about the conference going forward. there is only one press conference, which will be quickly forgotten. There are years upon years of games and operation. That's what matters.
The Big 12 10-team model is unsustainable largely because they are leaving money on the table by not having a title game, and the round robin format doesn't allow big teams to "dodge" one another and bloat their records to get better bowl bids. Louisville gives WVU a geographic bridge to the rest of the conference, and FSU would give them a viable anchor to the non-Texlahoma division.

I think Lville is a great "12th" school (or 16th as the case may be). 11 needs to be a bigger splash, let's be honest, only FSU makes that splash right now.
Also, it will block Big 12 from getting them into the ranks, that will make alot of fan from Big 12 not too happy about it. But I am glad that Maryland and Knights got out into a more richer place.

gotcha. obviously this deal is huge for UMD and RU, but i dont think it does much for a school like Ohio State but whatever...
i guess we will see with the new renegotiations.

VT's gotta feel like that guy arriving late to the party when its just wrapping up... I sure do. I mean it was great for a few years to get away from a disjointed, zero tradition conference. What a great feeling it was in 2004 to FINALLY join a premier league in our own region with rivals on our doorstep, and a shared culture. Did the ACC not seem as solid as "US Steel" just a few years back? 60 years of solidarity and boom its over just like that... Damn, that didn't last long, back to a boring, disjointed, watered-down milquetoast of a conference. For the love of Pete, are we cursed or what? UCONN lovers...please don't respond with comfort, it's anything but.

I'm not following you here...do you mean block the B1G?

I am really tired of this conference realignment business. It's a sad state of affairs..
I agree, but times are changing my friend. I have said all along that I would love to have Virginia in the B1G as they bring a strong academic prestige to the conference, plus a wonderful campus.

Yes, but it looks like you're stuck with us.
I'm curious - are B1G fans upset with this move? RU fans are thrilled, as you can imagine; I'm sure Maryland fans are pretty happy as well...
I'm just wondering if OSU fans are upset with this move.

Being in a conference ties one down to a regional identity and ND wants to be the one national brand in college football.
I can see that argument against the B1G since that is where they are located, but the ACC stretches from NE to So Beach. The Big 12 with ND, FSU, WVU and Clemson would hardly be "regional" and again being in a conference does not prevent them from playing games nationally OOC.

ND is quite elitist and they will readily admit as much.
Their little arrangement with ACC shows they know where the future is headed, I'd love nothing more than ND to stay indy and get left at the station.

From a football perspective probably. From every other viewpoint (academic, $$$, etc.) a resounding no once they think about it.
If 2 of UVA, UNC or Ga. Tech come along then I think it's a big home run.

If the BIG can't have ND, and they can't at least right now, then trying to finally open the NYC market to college football is a great idea IMO. If it makes the league more powerful, which I think it does over bringing in like a Pitt, then I'm for it.
Rutgers and Maryland are usually 7 win type teams

RuLSU,
Welcome to the B1G
This is bitter sweet, we were happy at 12 teams and love the rivalries, but everyone realizes that change is looming on the horizon. I am excited about the Rutgers and Maryland and hope that the move will help improve programs as well.
So, no I am not upset, I am excited to welcome new members to the family.

Nope "Big XII" want to get into SEC lands for a while now and they know that they need a natural rivalty for WV, Louisville does fit the bill but if they are going off the table, what other team will they go for, USF, Tulane, or somebody else.
