This might be Army's last game of the season today. The fact that they have been relegated to a bowl game against a 5-7 Marshall team after the season they had is downright criminal, however.

Marshall wasn’t 5-7 that actually had some potential to be an okay game if it wasn’t for all the roster/coaching turnover of Marshall. As it stood currently they were going to get absolutely clowned. Probably shouldn’t have accepted the bid in the first place, it’s not like the situation suddenly changed.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see ULM get a call. Right down the road so don’t have to really pay for transportation or anything plus you’d probably sell more tickets than you otherwise were going to.

Replace Marshall with Edna Karr, they'll be the State Champs after today, they can play one more.

I was worried this would happen.

The Independence Bowl can’t catch a break. They’ve been on a downward slide since ESPN started buying up all the second-tier bowls.

They thought they were getting a ranked Army team playing the Ragin’ Cajuns. Instead they get a no-show Marshall.

Marshall wasn’t 5-7. They won the Sun Belt but their coach and the school had a messy divorce. The team apparently believes Huff was treated so badly by the Marshall admin they all declared for the portal.

Louisiana Tech also won five games this season. Not that anyone wants to watch that bullshite for another game

Coach Jeff "I usually play two FCS non-conference games in a season" Monken for Army actually lobbied for them to have the Independence Bowl.

They had first pick of the AAC teams. He wanted to have a matchup that they would be favorited in (instead of taking the Gasparilla Bowl vs Florida).

I think it would go off of APR and Tech is literally one spot ahead of ULM

Although, I’m not sure if Tech could even field a team at this point. Winter quarter has already started so Tech would be one of the few schools with kids still on campus

Marshalls coach left after the conference championship game. I'm assuming half the team dipped out as well.

As much crap as we give players for opting out of their bowl games. It seems equally as crappy for a coach to skip out with 1 game remaining on the schedule.

Marshall refused to renew his contract and already had Tony Gibson lined up to replace him.

He didn't leave b/c he wanted to dip on his players. He left b/c Marshall effectively fired him.

If they can, I would hope they'd go for a P5 5-7 team. A team like Kansas would probably make for a competitive game v Army.

I’m sure they will. Louisiana Tech and ULM would be a last resort

Does it?

People need to remember that up until recently these players were considered student-athletes. They were going to school to supposedly get an education with less than 2% of them ending up fortunate enough to play in the NFL. The overwhelming majority of them were playing college football as an extracurricular. Meanwhile, coaches at universities were employees of the school who had already graduated from college and who were advancing in their careers in an effort to reach the absolute pinnacle of their profession.
