I think it is POSSIBLE she could make a roster, keeping in mind it would be in part for her name and the attention. Coming off the bench to give them like 4 pts a game, 2 rebounds, and $$$$$

If I was a coach and my owner drafted Griner and told me I had to play her, I would quit.

A team of high school baseball allstars would make the MLB playoffs before Griner made an NBA team and averaged 4 and 2

Never in a million years. How many 6'8 centers that can barely get a women's basketball over the rim play in the NBA?

First off, it is prob not going to happen. If it did, it would not be a basketball move, it would be a business/promotion move.

I don't watch women's basketball but if they had more players like Shoni Schimmel I would watch a lot more. This is more impressive than anything Griner has ever done in her entire career and it proves that you don't have to play above the rim to posterize somebody.

I'll bet she doesn't nor any other women's basketball player.

This whole thing is mind numbingly stupid. I've seen a few others on the board mention a similar story, but I'll share mine. When I was at UGA several years ago, our women's team was pretty good. A top 15 or 20 team in the country. To help them improve (and this happens with many teams not just UGA), they would bring in a group of male students to form a practice squad to scrimmage against our women's team. A good friend of mine was a backup PG on our high school team, and he made the squad. He told me that him and people like him (average to decent high school bball players) would murder our womens' team, like could name the score. He said that the difference in speed, skill, size, everything was just so much different than the girls. And we even had an All American caliber PG on the team that year.

Keep in mind that is former, average boys high school players dominating a top 20 women's bball team. To think that ANY, and I don't care if she's one of the best women's players ever, ANY female college bball player could compete in the NBA is straight up laughable. You know how people always laugh whenever the "could the best college team beat the worst NFL team" debate comes up? This is the same. Griner may be 6'8", but she's skinny, can't jump, and has played her whole career against other women. She would get absolutely obliterated in all phases of the game in the NBA.

I have zero doubt that when I was 17 I was a better player than she is now. Yes she has 3 inches on me but I was was more skilled than she is...way!!! To think that she could make a men's D1 team is laughable, to think she could play in the NBA is just retarded.

This is a key point. 6'8" NBA players have way, way more basketball skills and athleticism than Griner (eg. shooting, ball handling, strength, jumping ability, quickness, etc.). The only NBA players that I've ever seen who are as limited as Griner are almost a foot taller than her (eg. Manute Bol).

wait wut...how did this thread turn into a legit discussion on him?

The NBA is the only destination based on his parts, but it's not even remotely realistic

Yeah the most beastly players in the nba are only 6-7 or 6-8 and can play inside. Guys that have to make up for being a couple inches short.

I just read an article about it. Being a lifetime Mavs fan, I really hope this doesn't happen. She wouldn't have a chance against the NBA. I pray we don't use a 2nd round draft pick on her...
