This lady rips MLB's illogical thinking on broadcast blackouts. Hopefully MLB will realize the stupidity of their policy.

We're almost 300 miles from Houston in BR and we are blacked out from watching Astros games.

They are the closest team geographically, yet there is no easy way for fans to watch - even fans like me who are willing to pay.

ALEXANDRA DESANCTIS column

quote:

It’s preventing people from watching the game they love.

MLB should turn its attention to this issue if it wishes to keep old (existing) fans on board, rather than tweaking playing rules to shave milliseconds off game times in an effort to attract new casual viewers.

MLB is penalizing viewers for living in their team’s home city or region, the exact opposite of what a successful streaming service would do.

the blackout regions are so absurdly drawn that traveling to the stadium for live games is next to impossible for huge numbers of baseball fans.

Instead of being down in the dumps about it, she should go to r/mlbstreams and watch every game.

Tell that to my dad.

She's absolutely spot on. Getting rid of these ridiculous blackouts would do a lot more to grow the game than cutting 3 minutes off the length of a game. MLB.TV is by far the best streaming option for a sports league out there. MLB should take advantage of that.

Going to be a slow baseball day today....

Astros/Rangers blacked out for Louisiana people

Yankees vs Detroit PPD
Cardinals vs Reds PPD
White Sox vs Twins PPD

I expect at least one or two more series to be PPD

I would gladly pay a premium to be able to watch Astros games within the blackout area on mlb.tv.

Pittsburgh Pirates' games are blacked out on MLB.tv in Columbus, Ohio. And it's because ROOT offers Fox Sports Pitt. here, but ROOT is only offered on Dish Network. Not a Pirates fan, but it's pretty absurd.

Man, try living in Vegas!

We have 7 MLB teams that claim this as a "Home" market.

D-Backs
Padres
Angels
Dodgers
A's
Giants
Rockies

I'm a Giants fan, and there's absolutely NO point in getting the MLB television package because games from all of those teams would be blacked out. It's frickin' terrible! I get stuck watching Dodgers and Angels games, as well as occasional D-Backs and Padres games.

What's the big deal? I can't watch Twins games and that's because they are on the local Fox Sports net. I have to watch the games on fox local or go to the games or listen to the radio. I have mlb.tv and I watch games all across the country with the exception of the Twins because they are the local team and want people to buy the fox sports channel. I pay for cable so I can watch the local team, MLB, FS1 and I watch mlb.tv for other games.

Congratulations.

Other people are blacked out from teams that aren't available locally or are available on an extremely limited basis
