high school kids just aren't going to be as consistent or mentally tough IMO

We are talking about the top 10 high school kids that fly around the country every week to play in huge events not some dude that got a 15% scholarship to UAB

You think those women haven't been doing that for 10 more years than them?

These kids are 17/18. They are still developing. A lot of them are several swing changes away from where they want to be.

The top 5 longest drivers on the LPGA are 270+, which is long enough. And i'll bet their short game is better too. They have coaches year round and don't have to worry about school. I'd put my money on the ladies.

So these boys would be 30 yards further than the top drivers. Meaning if they played from the ladies tees they would have a pitching wedge going into par 4s while the ladies has between a 6-8 iron. That is a huge, huge, huge advantage

278
273
272
270
269

And only one of them is in the top 70 in rankings. (#10)

Probably. It would be more consistent and refined most likely, but the top 10 guys in the country have very good short games.

I think from ladies tees the men would compete for wins, but wouldn't dominate.

Yeh I just looked it up. 9 out of 10 women in the top 10 rankings average right at 255 yards. So the boys would be about 50 yards further off the tee than the competition. I am leaning to say they would dominate the tour if they played from ladies tees. Their approach shots would be hit with wedged compared to 6 and 7 irons

They would probably be the top 10 golfers on the LPGA tour. 1 of the 10 would likely win nearly every event.

PGA tips and they'd probably never lose.

ETA: my only reservation is that golf is a crazy game and there's always a chance some chick could get hot and at the same week all 10 guys be a little off their A game.

Yeah that changes things a little, but I still think the top 10 women and top 10 HS men would be competitive with each other from ladies tees. I don't think the guys would hit driver very much as it would bring unnecessary risk for a short course.

Men's tees and it wouldn't be fair.

Only ~20 golfers on the PGA average over 300 yards per drive with Dustin Johnson leading at 317. But sure high schools kids are all driving 300 yards+. Hell David Toms averages 270. You telling me the kids are gonna smoke David Toms because they will supposedly outdrive him. Nope.

So I just looked up putting stats to compare PGA and LPGA. The top 72 PGA players in putts per round are better than the 2nd ranked LPGA player in putts per round.

I know we are debating high school, but I am trying to prove my point that their short games are not anything crazy. That is just everyone's cop out as to why LPGA players are good.

Right, but the difference between HS kids and PGA players on the greens is astounding. Did you watch the men's NCAA tournament? Its a totally different ball game.

You are comparing David Toms to LPGA players. PGA men are better in every facet than the women.

We are talking HS men vs. LPGA women.

It is crazy hard to become a pro male golfer. Out of the top 10 HS kids, most likely none will ever SNIFF David Toms' career or ever be a top 25 golfer in the world.

I was not trying to say high school kids can putt like PGA players. I was just saying everyone always says "Oh the LPGA players have the best short games in the world" and they obviously do not.

Also, I'm not sure how many of the Players in the NCAA's would make the top 10 in junior rankings. Sam Burns is the #7 ranked amateur in the world right now.

I agree. Still probably better, or at least more consistent, than HS guys.

Excellent point. The OP is essentially asking how 10 of the top 50 or so college golfers would do on the LPGA tour.

Is Barbaree actually committed? I know Burns and Jeansonne are, but thought Phillip was uncommitted?

Sam burns.. One of the best junior golfers shot 22 over at his first pga event... That should tell you something about the stage, the greens and overall difficulty of playing a professional event.. And yes the the LPGA is shorter but the difficulty and premium placed on shots along with the difficult greens would be quite a bit for the inexperience to overcome on a consistent basis .. With time, they'd dominate but not at their current level.

I would just like to throw out there that the #1 ranked women's golfer is 18 and would be graduating HS this year. I'm not exactly sure what this does for the debate, but I would guess that the best male 18 year old in the world is better than the best 18 year old female golfer in the world (although I do believe Ko would be better from inside 100 yards).

That's not to say the men would completely dominate because women have proved they won't get smoked out on the PGA tour. Annika Sorenstam and Michelle Wie have both come close to making cuts.

That is a great point. Lydia Ko, is 18 and dominating the LPGA. So I would have to beleive an 18 yr old male would dominate even more
