Please settle an argument.

How would the top ten high school golfers in America do on the LPGA tour? Could the top ten high school golfers in America win an LPGA tour event? Make the cut? Never lose?

What if they played from the tips of a PGA course and not the short LPGA distances?

If they played from the same tees, whether that meaning they both played from the ladies or both played from the tips, I think the boys take it. The distance would be too much. For example, the boys playing from the ladies tees would be looking at wedges on par 4s, and 6 irons on par 5s on their second shot. And if they played from the tips the ladies would be screwed on some holes

They could certainly be in contention for tournaments, but the consistency wouldn't be there. That is something you develop as you mature as a golfer. I have played with some crazy talented high school golfers that weren't top 10 nationally and are scratch or better from men's tees on normal courses. Their distance advantage is huge against women if they played from the same tees, but their short game probably wouldn't be as good/consistent.

Obviously this negates a lot of advantage. They wouldn't win shite from PGA tips on PGA level courses. If they both played from PGA tips on a PGA level course, the women would be pretty screwed. They'd have 230 yard par 3's over water to deal with and 620 yard par 5's.

Unlikely - the best women players in the world have a much better short game than a Top 10 high schooler

There are three high school golfers in Shreveport that would be competetive, if not winning a lot, playing from the LPGA distances. Playing from the tips would make it much harder and they would have to be playing really well to compete consistantly.

I don't know much about golf... But golf seems like a sport where power isn't everything. The one advantage a boy has is that he can hit further.

Is that alone enough to beat the best professional women golfers? Doesn't seem like that would be enough... but I don't know.

Sam Burns is filthy, but not sure about the others. I don't know enough.

Regardless, I don't think any high school golfer would be "Winning a lot" on the LPGA. Definitely be competitive, but the consistency isn't going to be there.

Its huge, but its not "enough". Thing is though, these kids would be good at everything. They aren't scrubs. They are future college stars and male pros.

I still think consistency and mental toughness are two things you get with maturity and the seasoned female vets would be better at these things.

They'd definitely compete for wins. I am no elite golfer (probably around an 8 now, peaked at a 2-3) and I hit it 30+ yards farther off the tee than the longest LPGA women.

Nathan Jeansonne and Phillip Barbaree are both ranked in the top 15 currently and at one time all three were top 10. Sam has played himself into the Valero but didn't play great, but the other two play at a very similiar level. LSU will win at least 1 or 2 NC's with the 3 of them there.

you average 310 off the T? It is not like these women are hitting 180 off the t

It would really depend on the course. I'd imagine the LPGA would feast on easier greens

305ish, but unlike the pros, I don't hit the fairway most of the time I hit 3-iron off a lot of tee boxes because I don't play the tips anymore and its usually enough distance for me.

I hit it a long way, but I would much rather hit straight. I tend to over swing.

ETA:

There are only 3 women in the world that average 270+ and none over 278. There are dozens of men at my club that hit it much further than that.

Also, the the distance difference can really rear its head with approach shots. The difference in attacking the pin with a 5 iron vs. a 7 iron is huge. (7 vs. 9 etc.)

The 169th ranked male in driving distance would be #1 for women. The difference between pros and non-pros isn't distance, its accuracy, consistency, short game, scoring ability, etc.

I am with you but hitting 260/250 and not missing fairways plus with the short game i assume the top 10 lpga players have makes this closer than most people think.

Definitely. No doubt about it. I just said the guys would be competitive. Those top women are crazy consistent.

I hate how people think LPGA players have these other worldly short games. All top players have really good short games.

True, but high school kids just aren't going to be as consistent or mentally tough IMO. They would compete for wins, but anyone thinking they'd dominate the top women are clueless. Those chicks can play some golf.

Now, if they both played from the tips on a PGA level course, the guys would win a lot. The women would have 3-irons into par 4s constantly in that scenario and its fricking hard to go low doing that.

This. Unless a high schooler has a serious short game, and a pro putter, he's going to get schooled bad after the tee box.

Exactly, I have played with college talent level girl (got offers didn't want to play) that can ball and she wasn't nearly as good any one on LSU women's team.

We're talking kids that are scratch or better in pretty tough tournaments from men's tees. They have very solid short games.
