The Ringer has an article on SC6 today. Good read. I really do wonder how much longer ESPN will stick with this show.

In June, as the social media din threatened to become SC6’s defining feature, John Skipper called Hill and Smith into his office for a pep talk. “John Skipper has been very, very supportive,” Hill said over dinner in Hartford. “But I’d be lying if I didn’t say that in the back of mind, I’m like, ‘Are they thinking maybe this was a bad idea?’ Because I don’t know what our grace period or honeymoon looks like.”
“Mike and I know who we are,” Hill added. “We know who we’d like to be on TV. But figuring out who we’d like to be in this space is our ultimate, continual challenge.”

To hear some of what he said, you would think we were living in 1861 or at the dawn of the civil rights movement. Yeah there are stupid people on both sides, and I readily admit that. But he was trying to make it seem like cops are riding around targeting in every single city, all day, every day.
It's so lazy/intellectually dishonest. I think the problem is that many people today WANT to be the difference makers that made such an impact during the civil rights era. Problem (for them) is, the landscape has drastically changed. For the better. Are there still racist incidents in this country. Of course. Always will be, most likely.
But to keep regurgitating the same recycled talking points from 60-80 years ago as if they apply to even remotely the same degree today is patently absurd. That's what's going on here. Furthermore, ANY questioning of the validity/severity of claims of racism is met with one of three responses: A.) You're a white supremacist; B.) You're a coon; C.) You're a white supremacist supporter. And all three of those responses are tailored to the race of the person not taking such claims of racism carte blanche. And that's before we even get into the whole "black people/minorities can't be racist" poppycock
The identity politics has to end. It's absolutely wrecked any sort of constructive give and take on either side of the aisle, and in race relations in particular.

quote:Mike and Mike do this shite too. I have a 10 minute drive every morning I dont want to waste it listening to them talk about someone's sweater.
Jemelle and Micheal Smith spent the first 6 minutes of the opening segment arguing who had a better chicken sandwich, Wendy's or Chick-fila. I'm dead fricking serious.

Have they fired her yet? This is really the only appropriate action ESPN can take. She needs to be fired.

Clay Travis said he's been contacted by people over at ESPN, and people over there are pissed.
Linda Cohen, got a day or so off, for just saying she thought ESPN was being a little 2 political.
Nappy weave gets no Days off, and they are pissed as hell, that no punishment was handed out.

I'll say I've developed a respect for Jemele Hill. Sure can russell the white man's jimmies like no one else can. It is fun to watch. Sc6 is still unwatchable
