We had a great kid who started at SS for our HS Varsity until he graduated.
Afterwards, he didn’t get a sniff outside of a D2 spot and gave it up. Best kid on the field in 9th and 10th grade then average.

Look at the middle infielders on these teams. They aren’t 5’7 140lb kids. They all play majors ball. You saying they won’t play 5a high school ball in Ascension unless they grow to be the size of middle linebackers? Unless the big kids on this team ends up being 6’7 260, they won’t have the same size and strength advantage as they have now. That’s my point. Half the kids in little league have hit puberty already and the other half haven’t. That small, prepubescent kid that can stay on the field with a kid that has a mustache at 12 is going to be a player at some point. College isn’t the end goal of 93% of players, remember?

They are travel ball players that move onto Little League all star teams during the summer as travel ball ends usually in June at that age
The players must play little league to be eligible for post-season play. They cannot simply decide to tryout for the all-star team after their travel season is done. They have to play a little league regular season. I would say 99% of the kids on the all-star team representing the state of Louisiana the past 5 years have played both little league and travel. Every once in a while you might have 1 kid that does not play travel as well, but it's extremely rare.

the 5'7 at 12 is 97th percentile which puts them on pace to be roughly 6'2 which if they are already 140 at 12 puts them on pace to easily carry 185-200lbs which is very big compared to a normal hs baseball player.

this is the part you dont seem to understand....those skills the small kid has...they dont scale to the big field. unless he grows...no amount of skill is going to matter in 99% of the cases unless he just becomes outrageously strong which doesnt happen in 99% of cases. so when the big field hits....they struggle to even keep playing
the little field rewards the smaller players, not the bigger kids. so many have this backwards. The big field rewards the bigger kids, not the smaller kids.

A lot happens from 12 to 18. That's one of the reasons I can't stand these parents and coaches on my kids teams that push for 4-5 day a week practices. A lot of boys end up playing a different sport, football for one. I know a ton of guys my age and a ton of boys now that are moving around between football and baseball.
Every step of pitching that improves starts chipping away at guys also. One guy can't handle the speed mentally, one guy just can't lay off high pitches, one guy can't lay off a curve or hit it, etc.
Guys just lose the passion to some degree as they grow up
Its not always fair to say "I knew he wouldn't be good enough".
