Did anybody watch the ending of the Northwest regionals last night? Great game that went in to extra innings and ended on a very bad mix-up by the umpires.

quote:

Controversy framed the final inning. In the 7th, Bonney Lake-Sumner’s Braydon Rudolph struck a ball past the third baseman and into the outfield. One umpire held up his hands to call the ball foul, but another called it fair. Bend North fielders stopped playing, but Rudolph’s teammate Ezra Seitz ran from first base to home and clinched the game.

I hated to see it end like that for those kids.

Umps are volunteers. They need to hire professional umpires if it’s going to be on national TV.

Thats just bad coaching. Gotta be in no doubles there.

With where the LF was playing the runner probably scores anyway.

I'm assuming it was the home plate umpire calling it fair. If so, that's not even his call.

Wow. The ball looked close but it looked like it lands just left of the line. Not a great angle on it.

Baseball needs a version of the "inadvertent whistle" for situations like this.

Appears to be inside edge of the bag in the air and lands out of bounds after passing the base

100% agree. You can't call foul, have the defense stop play, then allow the run.

A few things, home plate umpire is not the authority on this call it’s totally on the 3B guy. Once his hands go up and signal foul ball the play should be ruled dead immediately. A total screwup

Isn’t it home plate ump till the bag. It hit before the bag so home plate call as to whether over bag. 3rd base ump call on ball hitting first behind the bag

As a degenerate gambler myself, you can't legally bet on the LLWS or anything affiliated with it unfortunately

Once I umpired a game at that age level behind home plate when I was a teenager. Once there was a fair ball by a foot and I just stuck my arm out and said nothing in order to indicate "fair ball." Problem was, I pointed to foul territory so nobody went after it. So I had to call it foul. 2 runs didn't score. I was so embarrassed. That's why I don't umpire anymore.

The losing team should go hug the umpires so it will go viral on social media.

Called a JV game once, two-man, I was the base umpire. Bases were empty so I was by 1B.

Kid hits a towering shot down the LF line. Lands on the warning track... about 2 feet in fair territory.

The plate umpire (again, not me) takes off his mask, jogs a few feet toward the 3B, points at foul territory, and yells, "FAIR BALL!"

1) Never before, and never since, had I seen an umpire yell "FAIR BALL"

2) Never before, and never since, had I seen BOTH opposing head coaches get tossed on the same play. The coach for the team in the field got tossed because he was angry because his players stopped chasing the ball at first because they thought it was foul. And then the hitting team coach got tossed because in all of the confusion, as the runner rounded first headed into second, he also though it was a foul ball, so he started jogging back to the plate, and the coaches yelled at him and he ended up standing on first... so the coach was angry it was not at least a double.
