It's a great ballpark for having missed out on the "new retro" era of parks by 5 years or so. People actually WATCH THE GAME on the South Side.

Yeah if I wanted to watch dumb 22 year old blonde chicks act drunk idiots, I'd just go to any bar on Clark street after the game.

Wow that is a really great post. I had no idea what an abortion the football seating had made the Coliseum.

So it went from being a decent baseball park to being both the WORST baseball AND football stadium in the country. That about sums up Al Davis.

I was generalizing incorrectly then, it didn't seem entrenched in the neighborhood like other parks though with apartments, bars and restaurants right around the stadium from what I saw. I might have missed it though. Regardless, it was a great place to watch a game and I enjoyed it. Sox fans were great as well.

MLB: I haven't been there but I love PNC park with the view of PIT. Least favorite: Tropicana field

NFL: Ford Field/Lucas Oil Stadium. Least Fav: CandleStick Park (esp. with the non-stadium issues, fan violence)

NBA: Palace is the only one I've been to and it's fine, least fav: Golden State's arena.

Chicago is a great city and Southside near downtown is not as bad as advertised.

But make no mistake, Southside is very dangerous.

Favorite NFL Stadium: Arrowhead
Favorite MLB Stadium: Wrigley

Least Favorite NFL Stadium: Oakland
Least favorite MLB Stadium: Oakland

Yeah that's my one gripe with it. They cleared out the area around it for parking and destroyed some city feel in the process.

The proof is in the pudding. Here's the best four year stretch for attendance before and after the renovations.

Before the renovations (1989-1992)

1989 2nd
1990 2nd
1991 3rd
1992 4th

After the renovations (2001-2004)

2001 7th
2002 8th
2003 6th
2004 7th

1992 was the Oakland A's last winning season before the seating expansion and they drew 2,494,160 fans that year. They haven't drawn that many fans since not even with some of the exciting teams they've had with Hudson, Mulder, Zito, Giambi, Tejada, Chavez, Johnny Damon, Jermaine Dye, etc....

The Cowboy players from the 90's teams that competed so many times for Superbowl berths against the 49ers said the field was like playing on "Kitty Litter". It was perfect for their slower long striding receivers and their plodding running backs.

Thanks guys, great posts. Lot of hate for Oakland in here, which is justifiable.
