STATEMENT FROM JACK CAMPBELL

My family and I want to sincerely thank everyone for the overwhelming amount of love, prayers, and support we’ve received over the past few days. It means more to us than words can express.

I’m incredibly encouraged by the progress I’ve made in such a short period of time. I have full movement in my lower body, and I’m continuing to make progress with movement in my upper body. I know there’s still work ahead, but I remain very optimistic. I’m taking things one day at a time, staying positive, and focusing on getting better.

My faith in God has never been stronger. I know He has a plan for me, and I trust in that plan. I know there may be challenges ahead, but with my faith, my family, and so many people in my corner, I know we’ll get through this.

I especially want to thank the athletic trainers and medical personnel who responded and cared for me on the field. I know those were difficult moments, and I’m incredibly grateful for the professionalism, compassion, and care you showed me. The way you handled everything and looked after me when I needed it most is something I’ll never forget. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

I also can’t say enough about the incredible care I’ve received from the medical team at Henry Ford Hospital and the Detroit Lions medical staff. They’ve been amazing to me and my family throughout this process, and I’m truly grateful for everything they’ve done.

To my teammates, coaches, and everyone in the Lions organization, I want you to know how much I love and appreciate you. This team is a family to me, and the way everyone has been there for me means everything. I’m proud to be a Detroit Lion and couldn’t ask to be surrounded by a better group of people.

One thing I’ve learned about Detroit is that this city is built on toughness, resilience, and grit. That’s exactly how I’m going to approach this challenge.

Please continue to keep me and my family in your prayers. We feel the love, and I can’t thank everyone enough.

God is good. My faith is strong.

Jack Campbell

Where's the fricking idiot who was pushing so hard that Campbell was permanently paralyzed that it got to the point that it seemed like he was wishing it on him

Glad to hear he is making good progress

I'm not a doctor but is it unusual in a spinal injury to have full movement of your lower body but not your upper body? Seems like it's usually the opposite of that

I think it’s called central cord syndrome or something similar. Also could be more than one injury so not a SCI in isolation.

Good to hear he’s recovering. That was scary to see him just laying there after a hit.

Sounds kind of like the impact could have caused traumatic brain injury that damaged the motor cortex. That is total speculation though.

First saw this on the ESPN site

Reading what Jack Campbell wrote (or more likely dictated) makes it simply great news.

Just wonderful.

I'll have to go back and rewatch. I didn't get to see any replay really, but man it sure seemed like a pretty insignificant collision, based on the very brief shot of it that I saw. Very possibly wrong, but crazy how that can happen

I called him out. It was ridiculous!

Jack Campbell is definitely one of the more high character and good guys in the NFL and thats not a cliche or lie... Iowa produces guys like this way more often than not in all sports. We might not win the NCAA championship very much but we produce winners at life more than most schools and that is something I am very proud of when I watch our events.

The soccer injury that happened a day or two earlier that ended as a fatality was barely one frame in the replay.
There are parts of the human body that are more fragile than we want to know. And this should scare us.

Glad to hear that this horrific injury did not turn him into a vegetable. Hope he gets full mobility back. Also hope he gets to suit up again, if that's what he wants. I can't say that I'd want to get back out there again after a scare like that.

As a Lions fan, I kinda want to see him just retire. Not worth it. Life is bigger than football. He got paid. We’d obviously take him back if he wanted, but I just don’t see how it would be worth it after this.

A buddy whose dad is a neurosurgeon just texted me that same thing about Central Cord Syndrome. He said the prognosis for recovery is good, but probably won't play again.

I think it all depends on which part of the spine is injured. The spine is a crazy fricking thing,

That was extremely odd, he seemed almost giddy at the thought of an NFL player getting hurt that badly.
