I didn't get to go, but beating St. Aug. for the first time in four years is a nice feeling. Sounded to me, listening to the end, that Jared West had a good night as did Bruce Jordan-Swilling. Chad Larose and Leni Sumicb did the broadcast, so some bias there.

Said the Crusader O-line, really wore down St. Aug's front 7. But they were really high on McCoy, the Purple Knight's QB, that he's as tough as can be.

I worry Trey Ragas is going to gash our defense in two weeks against the Eagles.

BM will struggle more with teams that have balance with a legit passing game. Aug couldn't run the ball or block them up front but still made plays in the passing game. No one else has Stanley Morgan though.

Final

Shaws coaching staff shut it down after they went 0-3 in the dome a few years back. It seems like they are content to just have winning seasons and hopefully win a playoff game.

I think that may have some truth to it. But their enrollment is hurting, too. On a related note, to spell out "SHAW" they need their whole band, color guard and cheerleaders. When I was a young WestBanker, the West Jeff. and Shaw bands were the beasts of West Bank Mardi Gras.

Their small size, now, reflects enrollment issues, sadly. And that's going to apply to football, too, it seems. They're really a AAA school playing AAAAA.

WM will take their lumps this year, but man they are playing a ton of sophomores and 2 freshmen. If I had to predict it right now I would say Byrd vs Ponchatoula in the Dome but we still have a month to go before things get kicked off.

Byrd plays in the Select playoffs. They are a magnet school. They lost to Rummel last year.

Did they change the rules this year?

They are losing a lot of marrero kids to rummel and surprisingly de la salle. As a Westbanker, I went to Brother Martin and didn't even think of going to Shaw. Shaw is a second thought for most kids and parents now a days.

Sadly, you're right.
I did a lot with Shaw as a kid, went to day camp, swimming lessons; as a Boy Scout we would camp at the Shaw Fair and clean up the grounds overnight. Went to lots of Shaw football between John Fourcade's years and my high school years starting in 1980.

As much as I liked it and my friends went there, I was never going there, unless I got rejected by my school or B.M. I guess I shouldn't criticize, but facts are facts, and it's a whole hell of a lot easier going across the river today than it was 30 years ago when I went.

This state has shown several times small schools can produce equal talent as 5A schools. Enrollment is way down, yes, but they still have 200 more boys on Curtis.

It takes the right kids....and since 2002 the number od d1 players from the west bank that have headed else where is gigantic....not to mention karr, hahnville and ehret all keep kids that years ago would have gone there...

And they won't sniff bending rules to get kids

And yeah even de la salle has some kids they would like to have had

And red pop is right 25-30 years ago it was a lot harder to cross the river not anymore.....and changing socioeconomics on the wb also hurts em.
