Were the original votes to split, years ago, 2/3rds or only majority?
Posted on 1/31/20 at 11:53 am to choupiquesushi
No, it failed. The split remains

2/3 change was put in because people like Norman Booker realized the split was failing and was added to prevent us from getting back together.
Sad day
Majority wants the split to end

So if a kid goes to an eighth grade catholic school , even though it’s out of zone, they eligible for varsity as a freshman.
Yes.
And if they go from a Catholic elementary to 8th grade at Catholic HS, they will probably be eligible for varsity as an 8th grader.
As it should be.

2/3 change was put in because
It was to protect smaller sports and because you should be able to change any constitutional provision by majority vote

or maybe they'll have the impetus to review the legality of current split and ban hammer it....

Oh, they are going to get sued

Proposal to end split in BASEBALL ONLY, which only needs a majority vote ... FAILS 178-130 @AdvocateSports @nolaprep @VSNLouisiana

Don't ask me why baseball, which needed a simple majority, failed when overall proposal had a majority in favor. MAKES NO SENSE. There are so many things from today I don't get.

There is a proposal to come back in FOOTBALL ONLY. Discussion now. Very little chance it passes, even though it needs only a majority. @AdvocateSports @nolaprep @VSNLouisiana

Amazing how that happens.

So wait, to get of all the splits takes a 2/3, but to get rid of it on a sport by sport basis takes only a majority?
Did they vote on making privates reapply yet?

In short, yes.
Classifications are in the constitution and those were never changed. When they voted to split, they did so in the bylaws of each sport. There are some significant problems constitutionally with this.
The two big proposals would have changed the constitution - thus 2/3. The smaller ones just got rid of the split in each bylaw so it needed 1/2.
The proposal to kick the privates out was pulled out before today’s meeting.

So in the end it sounds like no major changes.
Split still is here but didn't expand
Private schools aren't kicked out
7/8/9 eligibility still is fine

Only impactful change was that the selects have a little more authority with their playoffs and championships
