I would. The only players for Lake Arthur invloved (3 of them) were in the field of play. I think you suspend those players and let the others play the next round, but that’s purely my opinion.

there are a lot of people that agree with that, but it is uncharted territory.

Yep I agree. I think the LHSAA goes with a no contest double forfeit, but I could be wrong.

Would be nice to show a team being rewarded for doing it right and that following the rules can have positive benefits.

LHSAA finally saw the light on this. When I was at Iowa a few years back and we were #1 seed, we still had to travel to Leesville in the quarterfinals.

Depends. You would also have the teams in tough districts who may be the third best in their district, but arguably top 5 in the sate in that classification. I can remember one year we finished 4th in our district and our power ranking had us as a 20-25 seed but the top 3 in our district were all top 12 seeds. We absolutely blew out the top 10 seed we played on the road in the first round (running clock in the 4th) and had a home game the next week (won it handily and ended losing a close game on the road to a top 4 seed in the quarters). With the old system a team at least got some reprieve if their power ranking didn't tell the whole story. The new system is even more convoluted with the way districts are still 5 divisions but the playoffs are only four. Two DIV teams could play DIV teams all season with identical records and if 1 is in a 1A district and another is in a 2A district the former would get bonus points for all the 2A schools they played even though they are all classed the same come playoff time. It seems odd looking through the rankings and looking back at the schedules, then at the latest classification numbers on how 25 kids is the difference between a top 4 seed and home until at least the semis and a higher seed only guaranteed a single home playoff game.

yea the fact Lake Arthur was getting beat down makes this a little hairier I think. They may mark it a win for Ferriday and forfeit the next game for them.

I would love for it to be LA is rewarded for doing right by playing the next round and I think if the result at the time was even within 2/3 scores that makes it an easier call to make. The fact it wasn’t even close is going to open the door for a lot of criticism if they do that though.

Yep agree. The backlash letting LA go through when they were down 30-7 with Ferriday about to score again will push the LHSAA to no one advancing.

You’re right. I remember the McNeese St Miracle. Barbe came back down 27 in the 4th quarter to beat West Monroe back in 2012

I think they changed that rule… now you have to be in a higher division and a higher class to get playing up points

Whatever the score at that time was should be irrelevant though… it’s not like sending an obviously weaker team to round 2 in the smallest division will break the LHSAA. The UHigh and Newman cases are of far more importance

Now they do make a point to emphasize one ineligible player can disqualify a whole team. Will one player lingering on a sideline too long do so likewise? Or will they just suspend a few L.A. players?

Good, because that rule made no sense now or at the time. Having classes at all anymore also doesn't make any sense now that it is divisions across the board. You have districts that are split across divisions, not just select/non-select come playoff time.

Is there anyone not in the playoffs that would’ve been otherwise if UHigh didn’t protest?

Seeing Jeanerette as a fricking 4 seed is wild to me.

Yeah I know. I can’t see them going far just because of the mindset of how bad they used to be
