Yes, that is the story.

9th grader played but 9th graders have to sit out from Varsity if live outside the District and it is their first year at the school.
Probably slipped through the cracks because 9th graders are almost always just playing 9th grade or JV at St. Paul’s.
That’s either a really poor job by the coaches, or they tried to get away with it until someone let them know they were going to turn it in.
That’s not an uncommon rule. All private schools know this rule.

Under NFHS rules no jewelry can be worn except for religious jewelry which must be covered. Or medical ID bracelets which if a distraction must be covered. Many umpires discuss it in pregame with coaches and look for it in warm ups. DQs are rare without a warning or multiple instances. Im not sure of the exact scenario. But I heard the pitcher was wearing a bracelet - yes even the little plastic ones are not kosher.

I would think the bigger reason is that there are fewer and fewer kids that start at their HS in 9th grade as opposed to 8th grade. I assume if the player was there in 8th grade then this wouldn’t be an issue.

How many strikeouts did that bracelet record? Hit any bombs? Some umpires just have to show the power they have. That bracelet didn’t affect the game one bit, yet the kid had to be tossed in an extra inning playoff game. He even pitched 1 inning already.

Yes it was a bracelet. St Amant was warned in the 1st inning about jewelry. This happens every year in the playoffs, a good player gets ejected for wearing jewelry, because the rule isn’t enforced during the regular season, so they forget that it’s a rule come playoffs

Agree. Should check, double check etc for every kid.

True. Good point

Straight from the rule book:
3-3-1 A coach, player, substitute, attendant or other bench personnel shall not:
a: leave the dugout during a live ball for an unauthorized purpose;
b: fake a tag without the ball;
c: carelessly throw a bat;
d: wear jewelry (players participating in the game) or wear bandannas;
e: hit the ball to players on defense after the game has started;
PENALTY: At the end of playing action, the umpire shall issue a warning to the coach of the team involved and the next offender on that team shall be ejected, except for (f), where the coach shall be ejected. In (b), it is also obstruction (8-3-2).

With the LHSAA split why are “districts” even a thing. Also I get not wanting kids switching schools but 9th grade is the 1st year of HS. There is no switching yet.

Officially it is on the AD but the coaches are the ones that usually do the checking before a first year kids play varsity. Because that kid is cleared initially and “legal” to play JV.
But yes, I know officially it is put on the AD.

Hardly, ypu wouldn’t believe how many coaches say “it’s a rule enforce it”. Or officials are given things like that as a direct point of emphasis and really don’t have a choice

What’s messed up about that is that those forfeits would have affected the nonselect bracket...
Mandeville was 33. They split with St. Paul's. If St. Paul's forfeits that win, they might have passed Denham Springs.

Holy Cross is not happy with the LHSAA decision to move St. Pauls to the 12th seed. On paper St. Pauls is now the 12th seed but in reality they are not.

HOLY CROSS SCHOOL RELEASE
After receiving a message at 4:30pm regarding the change in the baseball schedule, Holy Cross Administration and Athletic Department immediately contacted Michael Federico at the LHSAA.
We are anticipating a response when the offices open tomorrow.
Please stay tuned for additional information.

Meanwhile you have schools tweeting about how their basketball teams were thrown out the playoffs, not knowing the difference between select and nonselect and those brackets

And they are the ones that voted for the split which leaves very few teams in the Select Division, thus everyone makes the playoffs.

It really is a screw job for Holy Cross. They'd never do this for obvious reasons, but the most equitable thing to do if they move them down is keep them ahead of McKinley and Scotlandville. They don't even want to be there and are going to give up 20 or more both games.
