mo it’s not the pitch count killing their arms. It’s the fact that once the HS season is over they take two weeks off then start summer ball. Then fall ball, etc
Players have gone from throwing in the spring to year round abuse on the arm.

Man, it’s a tough tough scene for Catholic when they get to sulphur. They cannot win there...I feel for them. Haven’t won a state title when the game is in sulphur despite how many trips they’ve made there.

Yeh, HS fall ball has all but disappeared.

It's more of the showcase stuff that's doing it.
Guys don't get proper ramp up/rest from going into and coming out of their actual season because then they go into these showcases trying to throw as hard as possible no matter what part of the arm care cycle they're in.

"HS" summer ball around here play in leagues during the week and some weekends...the older players are doing this plus the showcases or other U15-U18 PG events during the weekend. Games are played at Chalmette High, Wesley Barrow, and Ecole Classique. Per LHSAA rules, teams arent allowed to use their school names or uni's so they just change the names, get a sponsor and get new uni's. It usually goes through June/ early July then they shut it down for a few months and focus or strength and conditioning before Fall ball in starts up in Sept and that usually only last 4 weeks. We do very little throwing from Oct-Feb, only some arm layering drills

As good as he played i thought he should have caught it in real time.

We had a kid throwing complete games with 120+ pitches several times, back when I was in high school. He was a great player and never had an arm issue from it
Exception and not the rule. Arm has so many throws and each kid is different. It's a lot.

Exactly, baseball is just about year around now. Kids have thrown a TON before they even turn 13.

not on properly managed teams. No offense but you do not know what you are talking about and are citing the horribly run teams. HS do have what used to be legion ball but the better players are doing showcase stuff. Same as always. Fall ball is very limited. HS coaches are very strict on who they will allow their kids to play for too. Better players are only really playing for Knights or Team Louisiana for the most part.
Ton of focus on arm care now. 5-8 years ago....yea you would be 100% right.
now some of the travel teams...yea they get fricking stupid with it playing 100+ games a year starting at 8, cough....LA Storm....cough, but most are being very focused if run by anyone worth a shite.
The well run travel teams are playing 2 fall ball tournaments max, 10-12 tournaments in the spring max. Yes practice is year around but the better teams are taking breaks from throwing. They are training the anti rotation muscles for hitters, they are training external rotation and deceleration for pitchers. Tons of S&C and basic base athletisism starting at 8u with the better organizations.
The good orgs are again encouraging mutiple sports, not just being multi sport friendly. Almost to the point of parents feeling like their kid is forced to play other sports.
These are good things. The pendalum, atleast in most of South LA, has swung the other way and we are finally leaving a lot of the insanity that was happening behind.

You DO realize you're talking about a very small fraction of HS Baseball, right?
Regardless, 100+ pitches for a HS pitcher is a lot. And these "well run" programs aren't seeing these kids til Summer of 9th Grade (with a very small exception).
I've had 4 boys go through 5A Baseball.

well maybe that is why SWLA is dominating because this is the norm around here not the exception. From Barbe to Grand Lake.
Maybe the rest of the state should take notice. Start treating as a year around sport that requires a true off season with strength adn conditioning and lots of arm care going on.
