Coupled with a 25 year decline in parochial school enrollment nationwide.

Case in point Jesuit reject list used to be 3-4 times more than what it is now.

Shrinking demographic exacerbated by katrina

Better public magnet school options, primarily in Jefferson Parish, also hurts Catholic school enrollment[/quote

No doubt. Liberty is doing it in BR.. and charters / true magnets are a growing trend as well.

Getting bumped gives them a better chance at winning their district. In looking at their potential district I realized there are not a lot of BR area 4A teams compared to 5A. Baker also dropped to 2A. Amazing what baker was in the 80s to what it is now.

So which schools that have normally played out of class have stated their intentions for the next 2 years?

Shaw said they’re dropping to 4A
Holy Cross stated today they’re staying 5A I believe

Has Curtis made the declaration of their intent?

Has anyone heard what Curtis and Lafayette Christian are doing?

Remind me of the rules now regarding playing up. At one time, wasn’t the rule that you had to play in 5A if you were playing up at all. Did that change with the split? I can’t remember.

No, you can move up however many classes you want.

Got it. That’s how Evangel is in 4A now.

ETA: From what I’ve read, Curtis has yet to make a decision o where they’ll play next season. The deadline is noon tomorrow. Then the LHSAA has its first meeting regarding classification and districts beginning at 3pm.

I think they’re back to 2A… If they haven’t made that decision by now…

We talk about enrollments dropping at other Catholic schools, why would Curtis not be affected???

And J.T. is trying to break McKissick’s record before he becomes decrepit… years in the Catholic League (with Karr added) stand a chance of being lost years and J.T. can’t really have one at his age

They are playing up, no press release, but LHSAA knows

They haven’t done great this year, but I’m guessing even if they were to step back from the Catholic league, they’d only drop to division II, not all the way back to 2A.

Although, if they went slumming in 2A for one classification round, they’d likely get a nationally televised game, and the whole country could watch them crush the top QB, might be good press for them.

The article I read made it see. Like they were waiting to hear what Holy Cross was going to do because Curtis wants to be in a decent-sized district to reduce the burden of scheduling non-district games.

Curtis is staying in 5A and is stating they would like to see 1-2 more schools added to the district. I can see Karr being added with Shaw dropping out... but not sure if they will add anyone else.

St. Paul's to the Catholic League, Chalmette to the Northshore district

Maybe Newman will win a state championship next year after all. St. Charles and Notre Dame let out a collective sense of relief.

Calvary is also moving back up to 2A, so even without Curtis and LCA, there will still be some competition.
