He's so good that when left the Colts he got cut by the Patriots 1 week in to training camp
CAR 1,095
YDS 4,453
AVG 4.1
TDS 39
Looks like pretty good numbers to me.

those are not receivers. I'm not saying they are top talent.
No one is arguing that brady has not played with some great talent, of course he has. Manning has never played with scrubs like troy brown, david patten and Antoine smith, and back to point
they both have had talent and this year that swung in mannings favor. big whoop.
the point is, manning does not play consistently in the playoffs...brady does. What is so difficult to understand? I'm only arguing about talent because now it is being inferred that manning plays with horseshite for talent.
what would brady do with welker and Thomas, probably well, oh but the point is that he had welker and an infinitely better TE so Manning > Brady (these are "stats" btw) while ignoring that there is an absent variable there and he is one of the 3 best receivers in the league (DT). So UK, because he is deliberately obtuse, is insinuating that welker/gronk/hernandez is a better cast than demaryius Thomas/welker/decker/Thomas...give me a fricking break
I think manning is better but that is simply because he is better, and the (regular season) numbers/efficient stats, etc. prove it. not because of some circular kindergarten logic involving wes welker.

Yet Manning has better career playoff stats that Brady
better and wildly less inconsistent numbers
that is why TB has 3 and manning has 1.

I am not defending Manning. I don't care what people think about him. I think he a choker.
I'm just looking at the facts. Brady is a choker too if Manning is...as he has performed worse in the playoffs.
Brees is the GOAT

Manning has put up crazy numbers no matter the receivers on multiple teams and systems
I agree, though it is worth noting that "no matter the receivers" is laughable because they've always been top shelf
quote:
Brady only put up crazy numbers with Welker
this is true, and again I think manning is significantly better, but that is disingenuous. Welker is the best receiver brady has had for more than 2 or 3 years. While Manning had wayne and harrsson for the majority of their careers.
Doesn't mean TB is better, but it is worth noting. You make it sound like TB is some slouch who is only good because he is being made to look good by top talent. That is absurd.

Thanks to a great defensive performance. Manning's defense Sunday couldn't get off the field on 3rd down, and the special teams joined in that mix. Even still, the Saints had the ball while within 8 points for about 20 seconds of that game, 70 yards away, with no timeouts.

Tom Brady had a better defense, a better kicker (Vinetari makes the kicks, Vanderjagt blew them), and Joe Flacco's receiver dropped the game winner vs the Patriots while he caught the game winner vs the Broncos.

quote:To be fair, I only offered up a rhetorical similarity between the two. It doesn't necessarily mean that I view them to be of the same quality. Obviously Flacco has plenty of opportunities ahead of him to prove his mettle; I'm only saying that Flacco's past two seasons bear an interesting resemblance to the first two Brady seasons in Foxboro.
BTW, is anyone going to dispute that brady is more consistent in the playoffs, that brady was the catalyst for the 04 run, that brady having the same numbers as joe flacco in the early years =/= equal trajectory or talent,
Posted on 2/4/14 at 12:10 pm to theunknownknight
the defense has nothing to do with how consistent their passing numbers are
manning has slightly better numbers in the postseason and yet Manning is much better. Brady plays more consistent which is why he is the better bet in the playoffs.
he is undoubtedly the best...when did he become responsible for Tom Brady's skill as a passer?

The stat padding comment was only because as we watched that Saints playoff game, for 3 quarters we kept seeing that Drew Brees was having an all-time worst game in a Saints uniform. His defense kept the game close enough to have a puncher's chance. Drew definitely had a good 4th quarter and with one more defensive stop may have had a great chance to tie the game.
I was trying to rebuttalt the comment from another poster that stated that Drew Brees was much better against the Seahawks.

When he coached up the defense and special teams to compensate for Brady's statistical playoff choking.

Be's responsible for bearing the weight of his team's plans and performances. He's arguably the greatest coach ever, having a coach does wonders for a team. Organization, consistency, and game planning are all on the coaches. Does he make the throws? No. But he does everything else leading up to that throw, that is a BIG advantage.

Troy Brown wasn't a scrub fwiw.

Yet Manning has better career playoff stats that Brady? How does that work again?
Manning has a passer rating 1.7 higher. 2 MORE INTs in three fewer games. Sure, he has more yards but that has something to do with those INTs which have meant he's playing from behind more often.
Finally. Brady's 4 WORST passer ratings in the post season are:
62.3
57.6
57.5
49.1
Mannings are
62.3
39.6
35.5
31.2
Bottom line. They are both QBs but Manning has a substantially higher likelihood of completely imploding.
Posted on 2/4/14 at 12:25 pm to theunknownknight
mannings biggest chokes were games where he had a sub 40 qb rating. Manning had the best season in NFL history up to that point in 04, and he turned in a 30 qb rating in the title game...that is a choke. Had brady done that in any playoff game during their championship run, NE would have lost.
the lowest qb rating TB has ever had where his team won was a 57.7, which happened twice. Both post championship run. Peyton Manning's lowest qb rating where his team won was a 39.6 and that team won the super bow. So, if you still contend that brady was carried his titles then it must be very upsetting to learn that Manning was certainly carried to his only one.

I would take a 70-89 qb rating every game over a perfect qb rating, then a 110 then a 35 any day
btw, that 39.6, manning won the super bowl that year. I guess it was all his defense...brady had a crazy good postseason in 04 and carried his team to the Lombardi.
